mods: may I post a thread ripper?

Hello. First, let me say, excellent site... awesome... the best. Now, let me say that I've created a thread ripper out of frustration of having to hover to get name then save as. It goes thru all the pages of a thread and rips attachments and images and names them with their proper name. As occ is such a frequent stop for me and others, I'm sure there are others with similar frustrations, I would like to post my ripper (cross platform java code). It is designed to only rip one thread at-a-time. If you'd like, I'd be willing to break my source-with-code policy and only distribute the binary. If either of these are not acceptible, I'm fine with that, tho the other members may be a bit pissed. Just thought I'd ask before ruffling feathers.

Again, thanks for the hosting, and thanks to posters for such awesome pr0n.

I have no idea what the heck you're talking about...

Would you mind re-writing all of this, this time in layman's terms?

Thanks

Yeah, it's a piece of code that downloads a forum page, extracts the filenames and saves the attachments. You give it a directory to save to and it downloads everything (with names) to that directory. It goes thru the entire thread, not just the first page. End result: lots of porn in destination directory (and no need for zips). Can I post it?

This is the part I was most confused about:

"If you'd like, I'd be willing to break my source-with-code policy and only distribute the binary."

I'm not sure what that means...

It means rather than distribute the computer programming code along with the executable program, just give the program.

This makes it harder for others to know what the program is doing - some people would rather not use a program like that, which is why he's asking. On the other hand, forum moderators might prefer it, since it gives others less of a recipe for ripping an entire threads worth of images (and possibly rewriting the program in a way that would be much harder on the server). Or, mods might prefer he not distribute a program that allows one to rip entire threads worth of images at all, which is also why he's asking.

That's how I understand it, anyway.

Yeah, the mods might not like an entire section (ie all threads in hardcore videos) to be sucked. Such a thing would be easier to build with the source code. The program, as it stands, downloads all pages of a given thread (page 1..9 of upskirts, for example), but does not batch download all threads in voyeur. The outcome of the release of this ripper would be more bandwidth hit on the server, less frustrated users and less work for posters (no zips required). The ultimate answer from the mods would take those implications into considerations.

It should be noted, however, that the code is not rocket science. If someone really wants to suck all sections, there's not much stopping them with or without the source.

Hi aripper, thanks for asking this.

I know that these types of programs are helpful but I do not think that they should be posted here. If OCC members are want this type of program, there are options that they can find elsewhere. My concern is for the overall impact on bandwidth if too many members decided to use this program to rip threads in which they normally would not have any interest just to add to their porn database. That could cause serious problems for OCC.

If you and anyone else uses programs like this for large threads without zips, every once and a while you might want to consider zipping your results and posting them for the rest of the members though.

All in all though, I say don't post the program or a link to it.

Sure. That's fine. Again, great stuff all!
