Why does file name default to"attachment.php" again?

When I saved attachments from the OCC forums in 2005 they all defaulted to the file name "attachment.php". After a while - I do not know when - they started defaulting to proper names, e.g., "funny.wmv".

Now I am back with "attachment.php" and I have to type every name again!

Does anyone know why and does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance,
dummis

PS. My browser is Firefox 2.0.0.1.

It's Firefox's incompatibility with vBulletin software. That's the best I can tell you. You'll either have to use IE with OCC or just keep renaming the files.

Thank you, Fango, for a quick and informative reply. I guess my latest upgrade was really a downgrade. ;)

The bugzilla bug report (even though the new "improved" behaviour is by design): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299372

I use Firefox and get that "attachment.php" file name as my default if I try to 'save as'. However, if I just click on the file, I get the option to 'open with' whatever media player or 'save to disk'. Saving to disk this way gives the correct file name without having to rename it.

If you click on the movie link and it automatically opens up, you previously may have selected that Firefox do this always with that type of vid. If that is the case, you may have to alter your preferences to get the option to "save to disk".

Hope that helps.

it's simply the thickness of the bulletin software ...

with opera eg u can save the file properly via save as or save target as but when using save in download folder you get attachment.php

this results of he fact, that this forum saves every attachment in a, i call it, "hidden place", and this attachment.php is a "prog" which says the browser, where this attachment is, by recieving the id ...

eg:
Quote:

https://forum.oneclickchicks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=644183
red part: url to the programm
blue part: sending the programm the necessary information to redirect to the attachment and its name ...

so .. u can save the file by following the path the programm gives you, or you can save it directly, but then u haven't got the original name ...

don't know why it's this complicated, but this is the way it works

cheers ;)
