Here are a few of photofile tips...

ню is nude. The частное ню is, in essence at least, "private nudes". This is their category 29 (cat=29) in that long-listing URL I posted, above. "H" is pronounced "n", so I think ню is pronounced "new" or "niew".

Category 10 is HIO-art. These two are the only ones that hop through the confirm page on the way to the albums. Change the cat= number in that index URL to see the last year-and-a-half's artistic nude albums.

Lots of users have links to their favorite other photofile users' pages near the bottom of the info area of their "home pages". It'll be obvious if you're looking for it and hit someone who's got a bunch of links. Just like cruising webshots via "favorites".

When you see a lock icon next to an album on a user's "home page", the album is password protected. With zero understanding of Russian, I have never had the faintest hint of whether the users are asking for an email exchange or saying "forget it, it's for my friends only" or what.

When you're on the album display page (.../do), if you add "np=y" to the list of the URL's arguments, it will give you the thumbnails across the top without downloading one of the large images below. This is great for cruising rapidly through a large album. The np=y value is retained when you press the >> and page-number links in the albums. Recently, they updated the software so that all albums that don't stop off at the "preword" page (marked with a small T-in-a-box icon and presenting the user's preliminary commentary on the album before you enter it) start out in np=y ("no picture") mode. But the preword pages still go to the album without "np=y", which you can add after that if you want.

You'll see two key phrases after album names: I think новый means "new" and обновлен means "updated".

фото is photo.

я means "me" or "I". I suspect it's pronounced like "yo" or "ya".

превью is preview; демо is demo. Typically, these albums are a few pictures and maybe reduced from larger, password-protected albums.

Finally, lots of photofile users watermark their images with their photofile or other (email) URL locations. I don't think Alex'd be happy needing to clear them out of a flood of articles here at OCC!
