trouble with DivX files

OK, so i go to the DivX site and download the codec. The free trial version along with the player. Now everytime i open a vid, either with the DivX player or MP9, if its a DivX file it locks up puter for a second or two, then it completely shuts my puter off and restarts it. Doesnt do it with any other file type, only if its a DivX file. ???WTF??? Ive never had a software shut my puter down before. I tried uninstalling it, wiping it clean off the HD and reinstalling it thinking maybe i had a bad download of the software, but it still does the same thing.

Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?

Try getting the divx codec pack from here. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...k_All_in_1.htm
If that does not work then try to find an earlier version of the main divx codec (I still use version 5.0.3 and never had ne problems with it)

try this

I have always used divx5.1.1 and not had any trouble at all.
have you run any spyware tool's ?

I did hear that some divx's have spyware.
try running "adaware" OR i prefer to use "spybot search and destroy"
if that dosent help, then i can't think of anything else.
