Rebecca Romin-Stamos is X-cites me

There is a nice ENF scene in xmen3 involving Rebecca Romin-Stamos. It was a completely unexpected for me. I won't spoil it with deetails for those who haven't seen it, but it's worth the price of admission and expensive-ass popcorn!!!! Can't wait til it comes out on DVDso we can get some post.

If you don't want to know what happened, don't read this

Great scene. I loved her in her costume - basically paint. I loved her even more without her costume - naked. She was had been captured and was being taken to a prison. She was restrained in a cage in a truck when her mutant friends take over the truck. She gets hit with a needle with a vaccine in it, passes out and we watch as her costume (the paint) goes away, leaving her naked on the floor. Since she's no longer a mutent, they just leave her there. Naked, powerless and helpless. They could make a whole movie telling about what happened to her after they left and it would win an oscar.

Someone's gotta put some stills and a clip up here!

There really wasn't anything more to the scene than that picture showed. It was kind of let down for me as was the movie itself.

on a different note....

apart from the nudity, that scene showed what a manipulative bastard magneto is. any thoughts on that???

This scene was pretty awesome, it showed Rebecca Romijn at her sexiest. The movie its self was pretty good too but there were some flaws. If anyone that'd seen it can remember, when Wolverine is running through the forest being chased by the "Marrow" wanna-be, you'll notice after he's stabbed in the stomach and heals later on the holes in his shirt are gone. Maybe that's just me being to observant but if it's gonna be a major motion picture the director would really wanna think this through.

One thing I liked about the scene in question has to do with the nature of Mystique's character in the movies, and I think it's a pretty appropriate observation for a site like this one.

Mystique, perhaps more than any other character in the movies, presents herself as a symbol of mutant pride. She can look like anyone she wants, but, having been indoctrinated with Magneto's ideas of Mutant superiority, she chooses her natural, alien (though beautiful) form. Not only that, but she also chooses not to wear clothes. While gung ho mutant pride is definitely on the agenda for Magneto, you don't see him, Toad, Sabertooth or Pyro (thank heavens) going the exhibitionist route to prove how proud they are of their mutations. The prevailing notion in the movies, even among the X-Men, is that mutants, as a necessity, must remain hidden. That's why they fought the Mutant Registration act, that's why they have a multi-million dollar secret fascility hidden under their school. When Mystique replied to Nightcrawler's question about why she didn't use her powers to blend in, she replies "Because we shouldn't have to" and boy did she mean it.

Now, in X3, having been struck with a weapon containing the mutant "cure" Mystique's powers are removed, her blue skin and scales pealing back and disapearing, revealing the soft human flesh beneath. After the painful process concludes itself, Mystique, the woman who spent two movies prancing about naked in full view of a fully clothed world without a care in the world -- covers up.

Now, logically speaking, the reason she covers up is obvious. Up until this point, makeup effects kept her more intimate parts hidden from view, and her "naked" state was actually a case of barely hidden nudity rather than simple exhibitionism. Now that those effects would have to be removed, the movie couldn't have Mrs. Stamos' body fully exposed while maintining it's PG-13 rating. None the less, it does say something rather important about Mystique's character, and the nature of ENF.

For all intents and purposes, Mystique was up until this point, an exhibitionist. Now however, with her powers stripped from her, she loses something far more important than clothing, she loses her dignity. In her previous form, she was proud of herself, and her powers, they made her special, and they made her powerful. Now, reduced to a mere human, powerless, frightened and exposed, she hides herself from Magneto's now disaproving gaze. She is less special, but certainly no less beautiful, at least to us human viewrs I'd assume. The pain of rejection she feels when Magneto turns and walks away is compounded by her sence of loss, and the shame she feels at now being reduced to this new, unfamiliar form, devoid of the pride she once based her life on. A good character moment, and in my opinion, a good ENF moment as well.

And yeah, Magneto is such a prick. lol.

The reason she didn't wear clothes wasn't because she was proud.

It was because for special effects reason and to be some what realistic, her powers if for her to morph into the dif forms, including clothing, where as, she isn't capable of morphing her current garb.

If she were to morph into say Juggernaut while wearing normal clothes, those clothes would just shred.

It became more logical later on to just have her be in the "natural form" for easier morphing scenes.

But yeah, one who was so proud of being what she was and shunning the humans, is now reduced to that state in which she turned away from.

Irony at its best.
