Origin of ENF
1 Attachment(s)
I'm not sure where else to ask this. I've seen the ENF scene for well over a decade, but I have no idea where it started. Based on the very limited remaining early references, it seems like the term came to be some time in the early 2000s. Looks like there was a Yahoo group called E_N_F_ that was quite early. Did it start there? Maybe on Usenet before that?
Maybe someone here remembers the history of how the initialism was actually coined. Since this is an image board, here is an image of the old embarrassednudefemale.com, retrieved from the Wayback Machine, which was around my introduction to the term (in the early 2010s). |

I know the term was used on the Hungry Mutt Forum, because I coined the term EUF on that forum, at around the same time. It's my one, and only contribution to human culture. |
I have been an enthusiast of ENF for decades but never knew it was a fetish and had a name until 2010. Would love to know the origin myself.

What is the origin of :
SOS (Save our Souls) Mayday (the French M'aider) |

It was chosen because it's a repetitive pattern, that's easy to recognize in Morse code. Mayday was chosen for a similar reason. It was distinct, and could be clearly heard through the static of early radio sets. It's supposed to be repeated three times. |
