Wife’s or girlfriend’s old digital and paper pictures in a box - search for missing

I’ve been cleaning out some boxes in the garage preparing for our move cross country. I got distracted when I stumbled across some boxes of her old pictures. There were some typical high school and college pictures, some hot ones, but I realized that there were missing ones (old developed rolls had 24 pictures but some of the photo shop envelopes had as few as 10 in this case). I started looking at the negatives and sure enough all the best stuff was missing from the developed envelope.

I also found an old CD of modeling pictures (she apparently took some with her family friend that’s a professional photographer). The label was in her writing and although the pictures were high quality there was nothing too overly sexy. Here too I noticed the sequence of file names CIMG0001 and on but any time a set looked like it would get good there was a gap in file names. For example CIMG0247 was showing more leg in a skirt just about up to the crotch and then the next photo was a different outfit with file name CIMG0276. That means there are 29 missing photos that might be pure gold.

I was able to figure out the photographer based on a water mark on one picture but his website and smugmug only has his newest stuff. I can’t ask directly in case he rats me out. Google Reverse image searches show nothing.

This whole experience was exciting and intriguing but mostly frustrating. I found some digital partying pictures too (taken on an old digital camera) but there too the good ones are missing. I’m sure her old male friends have them but I don’t know them so I doubt they would share.

This is mostly venting but maybe someone has some ideas.

Well the obvious first step is to take the negatives to get developed. The second step is to post the pictures to this thread! :)

I got a scanner for the negatives. I think the photographer and party pictures (the missing ones) are probably the best ones.

Anyone with ideas on how to get these will be rewarded ;)

perhhaps I am a bit chancier, but if I had the photgraphers name and knew how to get in touch, I would take a couple of his shot directly TO him and explain that you are searching for the rest. He doesn't have to know your name and info..You may have to buy them, but betting there isn't a photog than isn't into selling his work. better, you may find out some details about that shoot, and some additional work. worse comes to worse, he decides he would be into some extracarricular time with her

If you need to tell him who you are, say you're trying to find the full set to give as a surprise gift to her because the CD is scratched and some of the photos are unrecoverable.

Either way mentioned above should work - could try the annonimous approach first and if he balks then "come clean" and use the completing the album reason. Only catch is if he thinks your inquiry might be any form of revenge...

Not sure why the hesitation in the first place... So what if she finds out?

Is running recovery software on the disc a possibility to see if the pictures were there but have been deleted?

I tried but it didn’t find anything. It is possible they were deleted of some other media and then copied over.
