Hope you can post more from this series - I have had good luck using the freeware program VirtualDub to cut short clips from AVI files. All you need to do is load the clip and find the beginning of the scene. Then there are two little black brackets on the toolbar on the bottom row. Just mark the beginning with the left bracket and the end with the right bracket.
Then, to save the file without re-encoding it, click on the video tab on the top, and select "Direct Stream Copy" - then if you go to "File" and "Save As", you've cut out just the highlighted portion of the file.
