All I could find was that it was some sort of ad agency promotion.

It looks like a famous advert for Grays Accountants (featuring real employees). They came up with the idea because they were perceived as being a bit dull (being accountants, and gray and all).

But I'm not sure, I thought the Grays picture had a few older people in it. I suppose it's probably been copied over the years.
