It's unclear because why are they bottomless? If it's a naturist camp, shouldn't they be walking around completely naked? What's with the shirts? :confused:

Because, dear people, it's not a "nudist camp" in the sense of those old nudie movies, or of Ile du Levant off the French Riviera coast, where complete nudity or, in the case of the latter, "le minimum" (a sort of g-string) at most, is de rigueur. Rather, it's a clothing-optional resort, where one may wear some clothes if/as desired. I appropriated these from the "Nude beaches in Croatia" thread (thanks, stanzi: I have them myself somewhere on my hd, but it was easier to pull them from here), examples we've probably all seen, to illustrate...

Bottomlessness is practical way how to protect yourself from a)direct sun on your shoulders, b)cold when the weather is not so hot.
I am telling you that bottomlessness is quite usual in nudist camps.

I visited a few nudist camps - the swimsuits are generally forbidden, but in some cases, normal clothes are allowed (paradoxically, clothes use to be accepted better than swimsuits). After sunset, most of people wear some clothes.

The guy who gave us a tour of the Maheso naturist camp, about 10 years ago, wore a t-shirt, but was bottomless the whole time. I think the phenomenon is especially common in older nudists who have gotten a little too much sun, and opt to do something like this when the UV rays are the strongest.

I've also seen this on nude beaches. In that case, people will do it when the weather is bad - or a little cooler -- so that they still feel warm, but can express their "freedom".

That is correct. Bikini tops with no bottom has more to do with the "swing effect"; women who want to get somewhere quick and don't want the "girls" to swing all over the place due to the fast walking pace.

But nudist resort bottomlessness may be too restrictive as a topic. Because:
1 - Cameras have a harder time making it to resort grounds.
2 - People at nudist resorts are less likely to go bottomless and more likely to seek shelter indoors if the weather is inclement.

Bottomlessness is still mostly a beach thing.

The nudist club I go to is meant for everyone to be nude, but nobody is approached if wearing some clothes for a period of time or a towel. I cant say for sure, but maybe the women keep there nipples covered with bikini top or shirt so nipples do not get burned? It is always interesting to see people speculate or assume how things are and should be at a nudist club. One thing is for sure, get caught taking pics and you are gone.

yeah, also, get caught playing with yourself you're gone! At least for the day . . . if there wasn't too much of a ruckus. Not that I've done this, but a friend of mine told me that the residents and regulars usually have some type of secret code for when somebody is caught doing something blatantly sexual . . . specifically if the "perv" is single male. Like maybe somebody will hoot like an owl, starting everybody to hoot, as a kind of secret alarm system. Pretty smart, gotta admit. Although my friend did say that he watched a couple have sex on the deck above the clubhouse, without any of this hooting. Single males are looked upon with suspicion in nudist resorts, much to the disappointment of people like us. hahaa

That's a very good analysis of what's going on. I and my wife are often only 'bottomless' at naturist locations.

1. When you come out of the sea after a swim, your upper body feels the cold more, so you may put on a T shirt, even if it's only for a short time until you warm up again.

2. There comes a point where you do try to be careful of the sun's UV rays. For me, that's my shoulders, so it's sensible to cover up when this is the case.

3. Until the sun gets up and going, you can feel a morning chill on your upper body too. We've often rolled out of bed, naked, and then put on just T shirts to have our breakfast on the terrace and wait for the sun to be warm enough to take them off again.

4. We like early morning swims. Points (1) and (3) above mean being 'bottomless' on our way to and from the sea.

Naturism is about personal freedom. We aren't all marched naked to the beach at specific times and told to be naked until another specific time. We have the freedom to wear, or not wear, what we wish, when we wish.
