Request: Wreck Beach Bare Buns Run
Does anyone have any photos of the 2009 race? All I have are marked photos sfrom another site and they are not very good. I was hoping to see myself.
|
Hi Marina, welcome to the forum! :D
I do not know of any shots we have seen here of the race, but it is a good bet somebody will know. Can you post (just in text with the http written like hxxt) a link to the watermarked shots? its a pretty rare event. |
Is this how it is done? hxxp://www.westca.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=234381/lang=schinese.html

I see Stevin has thanked you for the link, perhaps the post worked for him! Hopefully, our resident expert on events like this (klondike) will see this post soon and be able to offer you some help. |
Here's a zip of the photos. Small pics unfortunately, but pretty good content. We've been looking for decent pics of this event for a while so these will do nicely.
A couple thoughts: 1. These photos tell us that clearly this event is not entirely anti-photographer, so maybe Klondike might want to shoot this next year? 2. Marina, I'm guessing you read Chinese. Can you give us any more info about the source of these pics? Were they posted on that board by the photographer him/herself or were they reposted from another source? Any of that information might help us track down more pics. ***** RAR OF WATERMARKED PICS REMOVED ***** |
These photos are by the photographer. He had a camera and a clip board. He asked people to sign a waiver for publication. Another photographer posted better photos but they have since "disappeared." The chinese writing on this (and other news sites) tells the story of how the chinese people did. Second place in the women's category went to a half-chinese woman. I wish I could find the work of the other photographers. Aunt Watermelon gave out the prizes.

There are a few different photos that appear to be by the same photographer, scattered across several chinese-language news sites. Unfortunately, these are censored.
Some of our uncensored pics also appear on these sites in censored form, with completely different watermarks. What I mean by this is that the photographer's own watermark is gone, and the news sites have added their own. So unfortunately it doesn't look like they're taking publicly available uncensored pics and censoring them, which would give us some hope of finding the uncensored pics. Since Marina told us the photographer posted the uncensored photos himself, my guess is that these are the only uncensored pics from his collection available. The photographer himself appears to be a chinese-american or chinese ex-pat, and I'm guessing he submitted the censored photos to the chinese news sites himself. Still, I'll keep mining for uncensored pics, but I don't hold out too much hope. Oh, and here's a zip of the censored pics. Some of these are great pics I'd love to seen uncensored. ***** RAR OF WATERMARKED PICS REMOVED ***** |

Thanks for the .rar flanker, what a great event!
It is a shame that we here in Spain do not organise an event like this. I know one exists in the north, but we have the beaches AND the weather! Marina, if you have the time, it would be great to know a bit more about the event and what it is like to be part of! It seems that the organisers have even got in trade stalls and refreshments. The runners seem to be mixed sex, which might be a bit unfair or are there just different classes within the same run. |
The event is great. A mass of skin takes off on cue. It is naked madness. It is mostly male (like most nude events) but there are many females too. Prizes are awarded in many age/gender categories. This year it rained but it was still a good time. The textile spectators didn't stand out as most people were clothed due to the weather. 2009 was warm and sunny and most of the spectators were nude. The beach is a great place; full of life. The venders are there everyday. It's like a city within a city with a culture of its own. Love it. And yes, the run is, I think, the only time where cameras are in the open. Except, of course, for Wreck Beach Day (and the skinny dipping world record attempts) when hundreds pose for a group shot.
--------- The photographer is freelance and, I believe, he sells photographs to chinese language websites and newspapers; In Canada and Hongong. I gather he is Canadian but I never spoke with him. There are other non-censored photos of 2009 and other years including ones taken at the finish line. Watermelon is a local celebrity and she was very good at motivating the runners. |

They were on a chinese language news site. They have either been taken down or replaced with censored photos. Sadly I don't have the address.

Got it. But you saved them to your hard drive, right? Can you post them? If they have watermarks, you can't post the pics directly, but you can put them in a rar or zip file and post them in that format, as I've down twice above.
I realize this started as a thread where you requested more pics from the OCC community, and now ironically I'm requesting pics from you, but that's kind of how it works. I started off as a longtime lurker on this board, and started posting when I figured out that the more you share, the more people are willing to go out of their way to share with you. Thanks in advance for posting whatever you have. As I said, I'm continuing to search for others. |

You can, however, host them off site at Rapidshare or Multiupload and post the link here. But that's the extent to which we allow posting watermarked pics here. Fango |

So with that in mind, I am still hoping that marina austin can post those pics to either this board or rapidshare and link them here. Marina if you need any help with that process please just ask. In the meantime, I reposted the two rars to my rapidshare. http://rapidshare.com/files/421520468/WBBBFR.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/421525714/WBBBFR2.rar |
For me the link worked perfect just to see only the pics, because i refused to install the Chinese language set. (I hope to could communicate on this board also in the future with the English language :D)
May be that was the problem. I tried once the tineye picsearch with every singel pic if there are bigger pics and if there are other sources for pics from this event, but sadly has no luck. :o |

Found two more.
Sorry they are small and somewhat edited |
Thanks for the effort. As I think you know these last two are available in unedited but watermarked versions in the rar I posted above.
Disappointing that the photographer clearly has plenty more photos that have only been posted online in censored format. Maybe one of our photographers who lives in the Pacific Northwest and photographs public nudity events could email him and suggest a trade? Do we know anyone that fits that description, Klondike? |

Just what do we have here in the way of pics available to us, and pics that are not available to us? I was at the race last year. There were three girls running who called themselves the "Jiggles squad". They were fantastic! I would love to see pics of them. There were many people there with cameras taking pics, but I was told most were friends or acquaintances of runners. Several of the photographers were Asian. great find - I'm just trying to figure out all this back and forth posting over the past few days right now.. Klondike |
two more
The jiggle squad and I think the other photo is of the winner although without the face showing I can't be sure |

If you look in the two rars I posted, you'll see that we have a small number of uncensored pics in one rar, and another pool of censored pics in the other. Marina Austin mentioned that initially a lot more uncensored pics were posted initially on chinese web sites, but subsequently either disappeared or were replaced with censored versions. So basically we're looking for the uncensored versions of those censored pics and any others that might exist. The photographer posted the uncensored pics on that chinese language discussion board himself, so he's clearly not averse to sharing. I figured that since you're a pacific northwest photographer that shoots public nudity events he might be receptive to a request to trade or share pics. And there are plenty of pics of the Jiggle Squad in both rars by the way. |

These are the three from the first site/rar that were not watermarked or censored. Did anyone link to the blog that was referenced at the first site (I did) AND manage to track back to the appropriate date (I didn't get all the way there from the point, a month or so before the run's date, that the link brought up)?

somewhere
I have been told that there was a photographer near the finish line. Although he was unofficial, he snapped just about all of the runners. Where are those photos? They are out there somewhere. Perhaps members here have them but don't know what they are from. Please look. Check for darker sand, crime scene tape and a thick forest in the background. Oh and, of course, some pretty fit women. Thanks.

They look silly with those black blocks on their heads.

I agree. In all my searches I have found but one large photo. It is a distant group shot with mostly guys. Where are these photos!?!?!? There were several photographers so somebody must have some. I shall keep looking.
|
I found a Flickr user who has some photo's from the 2004 edition uploaded. As these were uploaded back in januar this year, he might has also has recent pics or knows them.

All guys ????

not at all kingdavid... check the blonde above the "C" in the last picture. There was also a full team of university students. I hope someone can find the finish line photos. There out there somewhere.

I'm really wondering why there are not so many pics from these event (including an earlier thread), especially if we have several members in that area, inlcuding some photographing ones.

It is good to see some pics, and I'm very happy that these have surfaced. I do think though that this event will continue to be semi-private and that all photographers will be watched. The Wreck establishment does not care about publicity a la WNBR, and they are not afraid to tell clueless guys with cameras that they are not welcome on the beach. Klondike |
