UChicago Polar Bear Run '10
 

This is a heads up to anyone in Chicagoland that UChicago's annual Polar Bear run is THIS Friday (1/15).

Last year we ended up with some steller pictures and videos and I want that to continue. The Polar Bear Run is one of the few open daytime college streaks and has a consistently high percentage of females.

One thing you can do, starting this Friday evening into the weekend, is help scour the internet for videos and pictures. There is a lot of material that gets uploaded that is quickly taken down because of TOS, so this is obviously a time-sensitive search. Any help would be appreciated.

I said this before in another thread, but I think it bears repeating. I love that this is an official university-sanctioned event.

Bearing that in mind, I would suggest that anyone who heads down to that area should take extra care to be discrete. We wouldn't want the university to rethink its policy...

This must be hard to track, and someone like me would have no idea what is getting uploaded, then removed quickly. I mean, if it goes down before it gets to OCC, I have little way of knowing that it ever existed. What I'm saying is, if this is really true, then it would be true for other campus runs as well, and we might all want to change our surfing habits a bit. But I really have no idea how widespread this is. I know stuff does go down, go private, etc - but what percentage of the total number of pics is anyone's guess...

Right. I can't overemphasize how sensitive campus events in particular are to the internet exposure issue. Believe me, actions that we take right here at OCC CAN effect the future of these events. Flanker7, you and I talked just recently about the 2009 Berkeley vids, and now one has already been taken down (could be a TOS thing, but who knows...). Anyway, we all want to see the pics. That is the problem. And because they know how much we want to see the pics, we play this little game each year. And on our end, that game is a little like harvesting a crop. If you get too greedy and eat it all right away, you don't put enough back into the soil to ensure the long term viability of that crop. So take and harvest pics, but don't do it like its the only thing that makes your life worth living. The first week or two after a run is when most people will be looking for pics, including those that participated themselves. After that, interest dies down. That may be the best time to sneak pics onto the net or OCC. And heads up like this one have a lot of value, but they can conceivably backfire too. I may have been the pioneer of the "heads up" thread here, so I should talk :) But lately, I have tried to tone it down a bit, lest it all brings too much unwanted attention to the event. Cocco's has an events schedule, and maybe a thread here devoted to listing annual events like that could replace all the heads up threads here. its worth a shot. Maybe I'll start one. In any case, if this sounds like a "do as I say, not as I do" rant, its because in the process of doing research for my campus runs thread, I came across a lot of articles that hammer home just how fragile many of these events are. In fact, I basically approach each one now like it could easily disappear next year. Campus naked events have a long and turbulent history of being on again, off again, on again, etc due to the whims of school officials, the internet, changing mores, etc. And how many people have you heard saying stuff like "they don't streak at my school the way they use to when I was there". So anyway, like was mentioned above, this run may be on more solid footing than others, but you can never be too complacent. Campus naked run pics are and always have been highly sought after rarities. In a way, I like it like that. To have it any other way only invites "paradise lost"...

thanks for the vids. Now why is it these vids always seem to feature a babe on audio laughing hysterically and saying "oh my god" I swear, this must be the EXACT same girl that did this in my first ever Berkeley library streak vid :)
I guess she travels a lot with her boyfriend videographer....:)

Tarzan has posted his 2010 Polar Bear run pics over at Coccozellas. He has two pages posted so far, and projects he will have four total. Its a good thing because whats up so far is not that great. But anyway, in the past his pics, with copyrights cropped out, have often migrated over to Flickr, so if you are not a Cocco member but want to see the pics, Flickr may have some within the month. Then you can play dumb and post them here (I know nothing.....see nothing), although its harder to play dumb if I know you have read this post!!

Anyway, dumb or not, I am sure that these pics will leak out somewhere.
