Bare to Breakers countdown - weather?

I know a lot of people here are from the Bay area, and there is a definate possibility that I may head south this weekend for (among other things) Bay to Breakers. So......but there are two thing on my mind: 1) the rule changes this year that might put a definate crimp on things and 2) the weather. As far as the weather goes, its looking quite good for the weekend, but I don't have a sense for what the fog conditions are like this time of year. And as for the rule change - will they leave the nudes alone?

Anyway, if anyone would like to help me out in planning my trip, I'd be grateful. Things like fog, the police crackdown, route, best place to photograph, nice hotels, etc, etc - all are areas where I could use some advice.

If you want to continue this by pm, that would be Ok too - or maybe add some pics to your replies. I'll try and put something up too.

thanks,

Klondike

More from Baker, starting with a large version of Klondike's last and a couple more of the same trip (supposedly Aussies en vacances); then an oldie from Baker, and an oldie (but just posted recently at flickr) from B2B '01. It's been too long since I've spent enough time in The City to give any up-to-date advice on accommodations etc., but I can say that a) the stuff I've read seems to indicate, and St. Stupid's would seem to confirm, nudity won't be a big issue: the real thrust is to cut down on drunkenness (though that could certainly affect those spur-of-the-moment nudes!); and b) they have long discouraged nudity right at the actual finish (historically at the end of the GG Park leg of the run, out by Ocean Beach), so a better vantage for the late stages of the race would probably be further back into the park...

I love that last one, any body got more of that little student group that went naked an about 2004. I loved it when some younger students went naked at this event, the majority of nudes (with the yellow hats) are normally rather older, and mainly male.

I have a shot and some more of a different group from 2005, (probably re-posts) any more out there??????.....

Here are a few more.

Also, with regard to the group of younger people. I think it's pretty much the same group (probably from a university) for several years from the early to mid-2000's. While a number of the group changed, a few stayed the same and there was some overlap. The fully nude shorter girl with the cap (in the pics you posted above and in the photos below) appeared several years in a row. There's a repost of her somewhere in the 2008 thread with her hair in pigstails that stood straight up, and you commented on that pic that she was a favorite of yours.

There are a few more pics of this group from coccozella and I believe flash4us, but all the above are watermarked so not post-able here.

COKEDICK 05-12-2009 11:14 PM

Forecast is mid-70's for the city which is pretty high for us, but I think since the race is in the morning it will probably be high 50's to mid 60's by the time the "runners" get towards Golden Gate park this year.
The Marine layer fog has been staying offshore until 3:30 or so lately, so fog should not be an issue!

Originally the city wanted to crack down on nudity AND drinking, but gave concessions when faced with opposition.
Their goal was to reduce the amount of garbage left behind, and the public drunkenness later in the route. (people who live along the route complained that people were pissing in their yards, half naked people passed out on their laws, etc.). The runners register and pay a fee that goes towards cleanup, but the 100,000+ walkers do not (and make 99% of the trash).
The agreement is now no not bring floats that carry kegs to cut down on the alcohal abuse, continue to ask people to register, and to ban glass bottles. So basically this year, cans and weed will be "overlooked" by the police unless you are being a blatent asshole. They have asked people to cut back on the nudity, but don't plan on arresting anyone for it. It's just not that kind of city. Unfortunately it seems like each year there has been less and less nudity for whatever reason. :(
I live about a half mile from the turn from Hayes onto Divisidero, so I will definitely be watching from the down side of the Hayes hill like I always do! It's my favorite San Francisco holiday of the year!
Anyone else going?

Thanks, Cokedick -

I've had some health issues the past few years and have to limit walking somewhat. My idea is to catch the action somewhere in Golden Gate Park. But the biggest problem for me would be if I couldn't park close to where I will be snapping pics. Any advice on parking so as to not have to walk too far to catch runners? I'll go where I have to...and take public transportation if I have to....inside or outside the park.

thanks again,

Klondike

COKEDICK 05-13-2009 12:13 AM

Public Transportation is going to be SLAMMED that day FYI (although you probably already know that).
I would say try parking (as early as 7am) in the Inner Richmond: Balboa or Cabrillo anywhere between 2nd and 17th Avenues. OR between 27th and 36th Avenues. This is where Kennedy Dr. (the race course in the park) gets closes to Fulton (the closest open street outside of the park).

Yes, good luck this weekend Klondike! There's not a ton I can do, but if you need anything let me know, since you enrich my life daily on this forum!
My wife is running (clothed) :( so I will be further up the course towards downtown fairly early in the morning.

Fred6027 05-16-2009 06:45 AM

There is free parking around the Golden gate Park .... but .... umm - - - I think that you'd better get there early for that :)

There is also a parking garage ( the Music Concourse Garage ) near the Botanical gardens ; which is part of the Golden Gate Park - - - but I'm not too sure how far this is from the race / runner's route .

Of course , Parking Garage = paid parking , by the hour etc .....

Good luck !

The weather forecast said it would be in the 30s (C) so that should not have put anyone off stripping off, lets hope!!!

Here are a couple, love the dyed pubes girls, search Bay to Breakers nude/naked on Flikr if you want the oversize version that are huge:eek:......

yes, Crispus, there was some nudity. :)

The weather today was perfect here in San Francisco (NO FOG!), and I had a great time covering B to B. But I wouldn't exactly describe the turnout of nudes to be "perfect" also. Thankfully, luck was on my side for a while though, and its a good thing because I didn't really know where to be and when. So I have some nice pics to share, but they won't go up right away since I'm on the road and tight for time. Meanwhile, enjoy these from Flickr. They show some girls i didn't see even though I watched almost the entire race from start to finish.

As pics from others come across, I'm definately going to be wanting to know exactly where along the route they were taken. That way I'll be better prepared next year.

With thousands of runners, I knew that picking nudes out would be like finding the needle in the haystack. Its still worth it, though, and I think you will enjoy my pics. Clothed runners outnumber the nudes by about a 500 to one. :)

Too. Many. Pics.

Klondike, here are a couple more of your naked cuties. Then another group of full nudes. Most of the photos of the latter are very similar, but they're our most daring group so far so I can't help but post all of them.

The last of the full nudes for now, then what I guess you could call "creative nude": bottomless, fetish gear with top and bottom exposed, and painted.

Then because I had two slots left in this post, two pics of one really fantastic butt.

edit: Sorry for the sideways pic, I forgot to fix it before I posted it. Just in case anyone doesn't know how to fix it themselves, microsoft's standard viewer has a rotate function.

Now for some topless cuties. The first young lady appear to be watching the run, rather than participating, yet she still manages to draw a bit of attention to herself.

The next one is a real cutie as well. Gotta love two girls not afraid to be the only topless/naked one in their group. They must love the attention.

OK, last set for now. All painted & pastied girls. The one in the orange fishnet top is relatively modestly attired, I suppose, but it's still a sexy look.

Be sure to check out the side view of the yellow painted girl. Not only does she have a pretty face, she also has killer nipples.

Speaking of nipples, while painted girls aren't as obviously daring as nudes/topless, one of the things I love about them is the way the paint wears off during the event. Check out the girls with the painted-on blue "pasties," and how their amount of coverage seems to diminish during the day. I'm guessing if we could find some photos of them at the finish line they'd probably be almost completely gone. I wonder if girls know that's going to happen when they paint them on?

Thanks, Flanker7 - some of those are huge files, aren't they?

I'm impressed with the pics so far. Unfortunately, quite a few of these cuties I did not see for some reason. I'm really not sure why because I was neither too far forward nor too far back on the course. I played a "middle strategy" figuring that would net me te most nudes.

As usual, my pics will trickle out. Unlike previous events I've covered, I'm going to post the marginal pics first. That way hopefully you will keep tuning into the thread...:)

this babe was dancing topless on a float blasting music. I had a clear shot of her, but maxed out on my memory card and only had a few shots left. Didn't really get her well.

I probably will post 50-75 pics, but quality will vary and many are probably only collectable to hard core B to B fans.

She was naked last year too. Check out last year's thread and you'll see probably like a hundred pics. Interesting that she chose to go without the partial bodypainting this year. It's not often you see a girl go naked two years in a row.

Wow, too funny. Let's just say great minds think alike. Unfortunately, I'm not a photographer, so I can't post brilliant original photos as you do. All I can hang onto is a tenacious desire to scan flickr (and other site) photos in real time as they come in.

Unfortunately, I have IRL commitments over the next couple days that might slow me down, so I hopefully others will catch anything I miss. I'll continue to check flickr whenever possible, but the annoying this is their search engine has a glitch so that if you try to go back in time you can only go about 4,000 photos posted on a given day before it stops working, so if you miss a couple days you're screwed. That's why during the first week after an event I try to check up a few times a day, as during peak days as many as 15,000 pics can get posted on a given day. Once you get the system down, you can easily quickly scan through 1,000 pics in about 10 minutes, so it's not that time-consuming, but you have to keep checking back with your computer every few hours. I'll do the best I can, but in the meantime here's what I've found overnight.

Just to echo the above, all your original work in the past has been brilliant, and I anxiously await your stuff from this year's B2B. My concern over the fact that I might not be able to catch everything from flickr this year is tempered by the fact that I know you'll have some great original unavailable-anywhere-else-type images to share with us here.
