Zapped! - in DVD Quality
 

Well, it's finally here - Zapped! on DVD. It came out without any fanfare, and it seems to disprove the long-stated belief that Willie Aames was somehow personally keeping this off of DVD in perpetuity. Regardless, here are the details.

Zapped! on DVD is a 'flipper' disc (single-layer, dual-sided), with full-screen on one side and widescreen on the other. (There are no special features of any kind.) Anytime an older film comes out in this format, the first thing I do before capping is make a comparison of the full-screen and widescreen sides, to see if the full-screen is "pan-and-scan" (meaning, scanning within the widescreen image), or "open matte" (meaning, removing the 1.85:1 matte used in theatrical projection, and actually showing more than originally seen in the theaters, and on the widescreen version).

In the case of Zapped!, the full-screen side is definitely pan-and-scan, and has much less on it than the widescreen side. This comes into play during the Prom sequence, when you want as much detail in the corners of the screen as possible. So I used the widescreen version for my caps.

So: on to the content. I'm going to go in the order of the scenes as they appear on the disc, which means the first major scene is 'Jane' (Heather Thomas) getting her blouse blown open by Barney (Scott Baio) as he first discovers his powers. I've included a (mostly) 'full' version, as well as a cut-down 'short' version.

All of these videos will be in the XviD format. If there's a lot of hue and cry over this, I'll repost these in some other fashion.

Girls in the car...is the next scene in the film. So I'm ready to oblige. (It's taking me a little while to get these ready to post.)

This is the second of the three main scenes of the film that are cap-worthy. The scene actually involves an extended mooning bit with some guys, so I edited around them. As a result, the 'long' version isn't much longer than the 'short' version.

I'm going to try to post the Prom files tonight, but I can't make any promises about getting every last bit of it done. I got a late start tonight.

I haven't thought of this movie in years. Thanks for the memories.

First part of the Prom scene: 'Jane' (Heather Thomas) loses her Prom dress.

This is more of a fantasy scene, due to the fact that Ms. Thomas was insistent that she not be shown nude on screen. So, in the second screenshot, the breasts clearly belong to a body double (they didn't even bother to disguise the different hair color). And, in the fourth screenshot, the DVD image quality makes it clear for the first time (at least, to me) that she wore a full-body nude stocking during the sequence where she was "topless" and covering. You can see the creases in the fabric as she moves.

The 'short' version just has the stripping bits, while the 'long' version has a bit more material.

Next part of the Prom posting: the 'Complete' file of the 'Prom Wind' sequence. It's actually edited to get rid of the extraneous bits (the adults, etc.), so it's just down to the best stuff. These screenshots are just to give a starting point for the file.

After this, I'm going to separately post the individual parts of this with their own screenshots, so look at the later posts for images to get a better idea of what is in the 'Complete' file.

Into the home stretch...the first of the 'highlights' from the 'Prom Wind' sequence. This is the girl in the blue dress, on top of the table, whose dress flies away. It's very quick, but I kind of like it.

Part two of the highlights, and my personal favorite...in fact, one of my all-time favorites of any movie. The girl in the tiny white thong, who starts facing away from the camera (with her hands shielding her butt), then turns towards the camera, then finally decides to cover up her amazing breasts and run away screaming.

Part three of the highlights, and one of the things I was most interested in seeing on the DVD was this very brief shot of several girls completely naked in the corner. The VHS copies were just too muddy to get much out of this, so I was hoping to see more when the DVD arrived...and there is more (but not a huge amount, to be honest).

It's just too quick to get tons of material, but it's definitely worth checking out. One of the best parts, and something that almost certainly will only be partially visible on the full-screen version, are the two girls trying to sneak off to the right of the frame. I'll mention something about this in the next/final post.

And part four, the final part, and the final posting for this DVD. This excerpt from the 'Complete' video focuses on the background nudity in the sequence, and is intended to allow you to notice the girls who are there but not the featured players. In the previous post, I mentioned a couple of girls on the edge of the frame who appeared to be trying to get out of the shot - I have never read anything about how this sequence was shot, or if there was anything ever written about it, but I've often wondered if the girls in the background were actual extras as opposed to traditional paid actresses. Their reactions in some shots are quite interesting, and in some cases they don't entirely look like they're acting (at least, not in sync with the scene).

Regardless, there are some nice shots of some girls who may or may not really be "the girl next door" in the mix here. And with this, I'm ending this posting cycle, and calling it a night (I've stayed up way later than I ever do to get these all posted in one go - that way, I don't have to think about them any more).

those are great quality! think you could edit out the extra stuff and then compile the good stuff into one bit montage?

Great work doing all this. "Zapped" has never been a particular favorite of mine, but I can really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into capping, creating videos and posting multiple nude scenes from a movie, as I've done it myself. So thank you for doing all that hard work.

Aames is a tool .... he was then and is now. Maybe he ran out of money for coke and thought it was time to put his masterpiece on DVD.

Japanese Zapped
 

I thought I would revive this thread to add some Japanese clips - I can't remember where I got the movie from - that are in the spirit of that 1980s classic 'Zapped'.
clip 1 is a fantasy sequence where the gifted schoolboy imagines what he can do
clip 2 is near the end where he gets things working and everyone in class gets naked
clip 3 is earlier when he practises by lifting the teacher's skirt in class by mind control
