retro NAP - a few to start
 

Its seems most of the world's known retro nudes-a-poppin pics are locked up over at Hooterhistorian.com. They have a staggering number of pics there, like 20,000 or so.

Otherwise, I don't have many that are not copyrighted. Some can be found here:

So I am posting what I've got and if someone out there has links or more pics, please add on to this. I will keep this thread alive as I find more myself. Some of the women in these pics are well known from vids of which I used to have qite a few. "Legendary" is a term I would use to describe some of these bods....:)

NAP.. One of the few reasons I'm proud to be a Hoosier. :)

Great posts guys, brings back lots of memories. Retro nudes alone reminds me of my fathers stash of Nudist magazines I wish I would have held on to back in the day. The full bush gals, don't see that very often now. Sorta shows the evolution of the bikini.

I have a question, what exactly is Nudes-A-Popin?
I know that it is held at a nudist resort, but the women participating... I have always thought that they were mainly strippers? Are they?
I know, kind of a silly question, but I am curious. Thanks to all the posters here, and to anyone who takes the time to answer this question.:)

The only NAPs I'm aware of are from more recent years, but yes, there are a lot of strippers participating in it. Lots of silicone.

I love seeing women with pubic hair. I don't like shaved pussies. Women should have hair down there, I think.

NAP or Nudes-A-Poppin is held in July every year at Ponderosa Sun Club, Nudist Resort, in Roselawn Indiana. (Just southeast of Chicago.)

While the event used to be mainly for it's members, (the first two years) it was and is still open to the public as guests and finally contestants. They started a "Naked Beauty pageant" to help raise money to keep the "Doors Open" so to speak. Over the years it's grown to be one of if not the Biggest Nude pageants in the US. They got the idea more or less from another club near them called Naked City. Ponderosa open the doors to the public for the event while Naked City and other clubs didn't.

The event didn't go over as planned. The "guests" were meant to be people interested in the life style, hoping they would look around and join. Turned out to be mostly voyeuristic type of guests. (Like most of us here. LOL) The Ponderosa members eventually refused to join the contest and the owners invited strippers and club owners to "staff" the events after that.

Although it didn't turn out the way they wanted, (In my opinion, allowing cameras at the event is what turned it into what it has become, but good for us!) it did work out for the REAL reason they started them. $$$$ I've read reports they clear $40,000 to $50,000 per day, two day event BTW.

Although Ponderosa has always been more or less a stand alone type nudist club, by continuing to hold NAP each year and for awhile they also held the Miss Nude USA and Mr. Nude USA pageants, they aren't really considered a very "nice" nudist club to belong to. Even though 363 days a year it is just a regular nudist resort. Most people hear Ponderosa Sun Club, they think of the other two days. And NAP is not a part of the Nudist/Naturalist lifestyle.

Ponderosa only allows cameras on the site during NAP, thus the pictures you see now. The contestants are strippers, porn actors, actresses and still amateurs. Very rarely do the members even attend let alone participate.

Thanks for the history. It got me thinking - I was aware of Naked City (Dick Drost's affair) but didn't realize it was held at a different club. I just assumed it predated NAP but was held at the Ponderosa

So, I'm confused about my retro pics because maybe some are actually from Naked City, not NAP. It all depends on what the timeline was. Looking closely at my pics from Hooter Historians, some show babes sitting in chairs and no pool is visible. I think these may be from Drost's club (based on a vid I saw once). Did the two contests ever overlap in time? Drost had to move out of Indiana in 1986 because of a felony conviction, so after that all pics are NAP. Both clubs I understand are located in Roselawn.

Sorry took me awhile to get back to you Klondike, I had a "small" computer glitch myself, power surge took out the processor, motherboard, and video card. LOL Been wanting to try out Vista anyway.... Would you believe the hard drive survived though?

My memory is failing as I age in years, but yeah Naked City's pageants did pre-date NAP, but not all of them. Some did happen during the same years. Naked City was also located in Roselawn. It moved out west in the mid 80's. (I'll take your word it was 86.)

I know Ponderosa opened in 1965, don't know when they held the first NAP, but once they started they haven't stopped them. Naked City and Ponderosa weren't the only clubs that held such events either, those magazines I mentioned in a earlier post had beauty pageant pictures in them also. I've saw scans of some of these years ago back in the newsgroups. Most of those pictures couldn't be posted here anyway. (age)

I've always tried to "place" each picture I've seen or collected myself. Later NAP pics are easy, the red and black contestant garters. Naked City used ballons for awhile. The pool at Ponderosa is rectangular, Naked City has a round "clubhouse," T-shaped Pool, heart shaped man made lake, and of course the Lady leg sundial if that helps you.

Naked City is now called Sun Aura Resort BTW.

Dick Drost is retired though , correct ?

To be honest I don't know. Last I heard of him, I haven't looked to hard either, there was a law suit filed against the State of Indiana, the county Naked City was in, and a bunch of people from the Roselawn, IN area for the legal problems he had when he lived there. (Something like 1 Billion from the State and 50 Million from the county.)

I believe he also had more legal problems at Naked City LA in 1990, charges very similar to the ones filed in Indiana. Don't know how that came out, but prior conviction.... You'd think retired would be a kind way of putting it. I prefer the way they say it on our local newspaper... "he was lodged in [insert prison name here] for X number of years."

Naked City LA is still listed in some club directories as active, in Homeland, CA, with Dick Drost as the owner. But who knows how often, (if ever) these lists are updated.

At least 5 years ago, Dick Drost had moved to Palm Springs. He was still operating ncla.com then, but now appears that he no longer is. I visited NCLA in LA, near the end of their run, it was an unusual place. One girl in a g-string and boots, and 20 naked guys.

One night in 84 I was working the 10pm to 6am at an all night liquor store in Northern ILL.
I heard the radio DJ talking about this NAP that was going to be the next morning in IND.
I loaded the cooler with beer and took off , I got there at 9-10 am and took a quick snooze befoe this :

I pray you have more, but if you don't, thats Ok - this is one of a kind stuff. I haven't even clicked on the thumbs yet to see what kind of quality these pics are, but it doesn't really matter. You were there with camera. that is all that matters.

It took a while, but i finally got a real bonafide submission to this thread. I was wondering if there was anything out there and was about to give up hope.

Love the hairstyes that say "Ginger Lynn' (sorry, but retro pornstars are the best) and the lingerie. These are unlike any NAP pics i have ever seen. :) Definately for the collector.....

Confession time... ;) I was on a short summer break in 1984 when my girlfriend and I had heard about this event through a friend of hers. We planned on attending and the night before the event she broke up with me. Over the years have always hoped to see what I missed. :p I moved out of the state later that year and didn't actually attend a NAP till the early 90's.

Before digital cameras, and never had the nerve to take the film to the local drugstore to get it developed. Always figured those guys with the cameras developed their own pictures. Did take the huge video camera one year, but the tape was destroyed long ago.

So the old retro nudist, especially NAP pictures, have always been special to me. BTW, the old girlfriend dumped me for the friend who told her about NAP. LOL I've always suspected she went with him. Didn't see her in the pictures posted, but you never know. ;) Thanks a TON for these HDTour. Hope you have more to add.

I don't know what that says about your girlfriend or her friend. Mmm........would having long lost pics of her at NAP taken by HDTour be kind of like having revenge photos or blackmail material? :) And are we talking about the exact same year? This is quite a story to go along with the pics, and I can sure understand if they bring back memories. I picture your girlfriend running off with a Dick Drost-like character. I can't imagine such an affair lasting too long.....unless the girl was both destitute and an exhibitionist......

Yeah, was my last year in college, graduated in 1984, and I moved from Indiana to Virginia in Dec of 84. She broke up with me in 84. (High school sweetheart, first real girlfriend, kinda hard to forget. LOL)

Yeah I suppose blackmail material or revenge, but I'm not that kind of guy. She ended up getting married to the guy, divorced in less than a year or two. He was older, late 20's at the time. She was sorta messed up back then, we reconnected years later. More or less forgave her for everything that happened, and trust me, this isn't the whole story of course, just a part of it. But over the years, I'm still learning what all was really going on. So when I saw NAP 84, just smiled, took a deep breath and looked. Actually glad I didn't see pictures of her.

MAN, I miss the 80's! lol

Well, Klondike has a thread on obscure festivals and directed me to this old tread. I have hundreds, ok maybe a thousand or so 35mm slides from the late 70s and 80s shows at both Ponderosa, (NAP) and Naked City. It isn't real easy to convert the slides to digital, but I have about 300 or so that I have converted. I use to attend both shows , "back in the day" but haven't been to a Nudes-a-Poppin' show since 2005. I didn't pay much attention to the 'Stars" of the show in the 2000s, as most if not all, were strippers from clubs around the Country, most with silicone titties, which is ok if you like that sort of thing, but in the recent years I spent 95% of my time, and pictures on the people attending the show, which, quite frankly is where the real people show is.
The easiest way to tell the difference between photos from the NAP show, at Ponderosa, and the Naked City show is, the NAP show is always around the pool, and the contestants would be on the stage and walk around the pool to little elevated platforms in a large circle. At Naked City, the contestants were on a concrete area, no pool, and always had chairs to sit on in a large circle. Also, any photo that has the glass round building in the background is at Naked City. That glass building is still there, and is still used by the current Sun Aura Club. IN my humble opinion, you are in the possession of a literal gold mine of pics. Seriously, i mean this is collectors stuff and worth it to some to pay for. So far, what you've posted is awesome. I would love to see everything you have. OUtside of hooter historians collection (which you do have to pay for), there really aren't that many retro NAP pics out there.

So how can I say it - this is a significant collection of pics. We would be honored to have you post them here. :)
You will note that HDTour posted some original pics of his own on a previous page. I went ga ga over those too, and it appears yours are significantly better in quality and greater in number.

Glad you like them, Klondike. Here's a few from the 1980 NAP Show. BTW, the Blond girl in the first pix won that day, went by the name Chiffon, if memory serves. Bet shes still a good looking woman even today. Back then it cost $15 to get in for the third Sunday in July show. Guess I should dig out the rest of those slides, sort them and try to digitize them too, and I might do that someday(s). Anyway, hope you all enjoy these

These are absolutely wonderful in every way. The crops are outstanding and that adds even more collectors appeal as well as artistic merit to these photos. Are you a professional photographer?

I'll have you know I was a Hooters Historian member years ago, have thousands of their classic NAP pics, and can tell you these are every bit as desirable.
