She's the former editor of the naturist magazine "Health and & Efficiency". If anyone can help me finding more pics of her (or even video), i will greatly appreciate it!

Another blast from the past. From 1995, before she became editor of the H&E, Ms Ludbrook posed for this set shot by Charlie Simonds. She appeared many more times when she became editor, lasting up to 1999. The other model in the set is Sarah Daniel, a Brit "top-shelfer" who did a handful of movies and is, as far as I know, still working.

Beautiful...the H&E photos from the 90's really are special. I'm desperately trying to find images from the July 1992 one...would appreciate anyone's help in tracking it down!

Thought I recognised the other lady- was in Brighton Babewatch (Ben Dover 2?) Supposedly watching the london-brighton bike ride, in a tight lycra outfit..

Also on the tape was Teresa May (as Joanna), lezzing it up with Gilly Sampson, a tame (but still damn sexy) beach pickup with Janey Lamb, and another woman 'reluctantly' doing a strip.

Thank you for posting this. I first came across editions of the magazine when Leslie Bainbridge was an editor. He was an ardent enthusiast for full depilation many years before it became fashionable and of circumcision.

I see Helen sported a landing strip in these pictures. Was this always the case and did she ever express editorial views on depilation?

I would love to know if some of those who contributed to H&E over the years continued their naturism after their writing or editorial roles had ended.

Was it a case of them being naturist just because of their role on the magazine, or were they dedicated naturists who are still enjoying the sun, sea and sand as nature intended.

A 'where are they now?' article in H&E itself would be an absolutely superb article that might also reflect on their changing views on naturism in the years since.

Hard to say. Many of the models were just that, and it's unknown if they were actual naturists either before or after they appeared in the magazine. If you've ever seen any of Charlie Simonds' films, it can be quite fun to play "spot the pornstar" as many of them straddled (no pun intended) the divide between glamour and HC work. Off the top of my head, I can recall Vida Garman, Jilly Sampson, Rose Wood, Katarina Nikita, KazB, Maria Sherriff, Louise Hodges and Lorraine Ward all appearing at one time or another. Wendy Cooper was a model/actress who appeared in a couple of obscure "straight" roles alongside her more widely known glamour work. She even appeared in an early Ben Dover video. Heck, even Alison Brown performed in a hard-ish core sex ed video.
As for the contributors, it's a bit fuzzy. Ol' Charlie still does a little photography, though he does seem to have retired from making his films. Teresa O'Shea still contributes articles. Former editor Murray Wren died a couple of years ago in his 90s leaving behind thousands of naturist photographs. Mark Storey was a visible figure for much of his time as a writer for H&E both before and after he was editor. Much like Kate Sturdy and Helen Ludbrook, he seems to have moved on to pastures unknown, though who knows if they are still involved in naturism.

Did you mean editor Mark Nisbet? (Mark Storey may well have had articles (re)published by H&E, but he primarily writes for N Magazine in the USA, where he lives).

I understand that. Presumably some even had their words ghost-written. The editors, though, I would have assumed to have some sort of journalistic background (unless they, too, were mere figureheads). I'd always assume Diana Roseman aka Jane Hendy-Smith to be a genuine naturist, Kate Sturdy, certainly (as she was filmed for a BBC documentary, 'Let's Go Naked' in her late teens, on her first naturist holiday) and Helen Ludbrook too seemed like a genuine naturist. I seem to recall another documentary on UK television in which Charlie & Wendy were interviewed, with Wendy seemingly taking some sort of business partner role with Charlie.

Diana Roseman, aka Jane Hendy Smith, revealed her then whereabouts in 1997 on a Google Groups page, in which she suggested she was a shareholding director in H&E. Let's just take the opportunity to admire her once more...

My mistake, apologies. Yes, I meant Mark Nisbet, former editor of H&E and Starkers magazine.

Here's a small gallery of late 80s H&E contributor Mary Stephenson who, as I recall, seemed to do reports on many naturist campsites in France, and had her family in many of the photographs. She's another who I'd identify as a genuine naturist.

I believe this may be "Full Frontal in Flip-Flops" a documentary from 1998. I have searched in vain to find a copy of this but, alas, without success.

As explained in the article, Gail wasn't a nudist when she made the film but became one later as a result of her experience.

Strange to think that this film is over 30 years old. Gail Ward must be in her 50s by now. As far as I know, she was never heard of again. I wonder if she stayed a naturist?
As an aside, I just noticed at the end of the article that the original video was priced at £30. Pretty expensive in 1984 money.

You're right, nudist videos are always stupidly expensive for some reason. Regarding Gail, I read somewhere that her acting career didn't take off, and instead she did some top shelf stuff (but not enough to make a name for herself obviously).

I have recently become quite enamored with Ms Ludbrook and discovered a few more pics of this gorgeous woman. See attached. I also found a (non-nude) appearance by her on a TV program called Scottish Women. She appears in Series 8, episode 1 where she discusses being a naturist. It can be easily found through google.

Now I am hunting for more nude pictures and especially videos. According to IMDB she appeared in two nudist documentaries, Full Frontal in Flip Flops and Free Sun Naturally. I have found several references thus far but no luck in tracking down the actual videos.

Any help from you gentlemen would be greatly appreciated. Let's uncover more of our girl Helen!

According to Nudist Resorts.org blogs, Gail Ward was an aspiring actress who saw an ad for the movie along with some info they were having a hard time filling the role. She applied and got the job. Did some "glamor" work after that but acting career never took off. In an interview, she said acting in the movie led to her becoming a naturist. Someone posted that she has a FB page.

She also did a piece for one of those Holiday programmes, this one was on Channel 4, maybe, where she took her then boyfriend to Vera Playa. He wasn't a naturist at that point, she was, and a bit of the feature was his 'concerns' at his public nude debut.

Helen was also in another Channel 4 programme on naturism, and appeared in a section of it for a photo shoot with Charlie Simmonds (who probably made the films you mention). Helen and Wendy Cooper, I think, did some posing in a swimming pool at a sun club in England.

I have both of these on VHS tape, but I don't have any equipment to digitise them.

I'd dearly love to see these. Some years back there was a clip going around online, less than 30 seconds long, of Wendy setting up a camera and Helen getting into the pool. I assume it was a rip from one of the videos you mention above. Charlie would have been making one of his own films at the same time, as Wendy interviews Helen in the pool (mostly submerged unfortunately) in it.

Yes, that's the one. I think that might have been Helen's entire contribution to that documentary, though.

The other 'holiday travelogue' one is longer. I think it might have been a 10 minute segment from a 30 minute programme which featured three couples taking different types of holiday. So, a clothed couple caravanning, a clothed couple doing Rome (or somewhere) and then Helen and her fella on a naturist holiday. I can't even remember the name of the show...

I must look to see if there's some simple way to digitise VHS tapes...

It's amazing to me how Charlie has managed to maintain such a long career as a pro naturist photographer when looking at these shots. Even a hobbyist snapper like me knows that shooting in the midday sun is always a bad idea. Judging by the unflattering black shadows on the ladies' faces, ol' Charlie wasn't familiar with the concept of fill flash for shooting backlit subjects, either.
Sorry for the mini-rant, but these things bug me.

I might be giving him more credit than he deserves, but I thought maybe the shadows on the faces was deliberate, so as to subtly make the girls' bodies (and specifically their tits) the focus of the pictures. This seems in keeping witht the innuendo style of mags like h&e - but I might be reading too much into it.

In any case Charlie is a bit of a hero of mine, along with Gerd Berendt of Sonnenfreunde fame. These guys made no attempt whatsover to hide their blatant and shameless focus on young, beautiful women.

Agreed. And why shouldn't he? While sensual and erotic, the "golden age" H&E never lapsed into tastelessness or tackiness. It's probably difficult for those grew up with internet and porn on tap to understand the special place that H&E had for a lot of guys. It was certainly a formative experience for me. Hell, all these years later I still enjoy seeing them.
Charlie has spend the past few decades in the company of beautiful naked models and has generously shared with us the fruits of his labours. Hats off to him. (The shadows still bug me a little, though...:) )

Anyway, now we return to our regularly scheduled programming. A little more of Ms Ludbrook, this time from H&E Quarterly no.75, July 1997. This, I believe, was one of the last of the quarterly issues before the launch of the launch of the short-lived H&E Lifestyle. The quarterlies (and even more so with the Extras) had longer "articles", but I suspect this was mostly an excuse to pack in as much naked flesh as possible. Not that anyone was complaining...
