Fremont Solstice Parade 2022

1 Attachment(s)
Looks like there will be a Solstice Parade this year after a 2 year hiatus!

Just a heads up for anyone who plans on attending; this year's parade route will be shorter than years past and will finish at the Fremont Fairgrounds instead of the usual Gas Works Park.

great news! We are counting on you to produce nice coverage...

UPDATE: The main painting party that usually happens every year before the parade at CSR Marine isn't happening this year. Instead people are planning on getting painted in various other places such as Gas Works Park.

I just thought I'd give everyone a heads up if you're planning on participating or snapping photos

lonemeat 06-15-2022 06:58 PM

The "official" ride is indeed happening this year but there are a lot changes and it's unclear how it will all work out.

The Solstice Parade itself and the Fremont Fair will both be *much* smaller than in the past. They'll be limited to the area right around the central part of Fremont (ie., no Gasworks Park presence with beer gardens, stage, etc). Also, there will be no central painting party, which was key to the growth of the ride. And the weather forecast is marginal.

Not to be a total downer, I really hope we'll see a good bounce-back in numbers :)

But as an fyi for anyone who wants to photograph the ride, the opportunities will likely be a lot more limited than in the past.

Get irishboy on the case

Sounds to me like the 1:00-1:25 gathering time at Gas Works is better than anything they've had in the past, no?

Hate to be the annual bearer of bad tidings but we haven’t heard from irishboy in years and years…2013? He literally just never posted again out of the blue. I fear he passed…

HCharles.Crank 06-18-2022 09:13 AM

Cold

Weather looks pretty poor. Best we can hope for is 60 and cloudy. Hopefully no rain. We seattlites are a hardy bunch tho: I have a good feeling about the first post-Covid ride 🤞

Question

For someone who is in the area now visiting friends but didn’t bring a bike…is it possible to walk? What about renting a scooter?

I was cautiously optimistic going into today considering it was only 55° during the painting party/gathering. But it ended up being a lot better than I thought.

There were fewer riders than years past but I think that was just because the weather and somewhat to do with last minute planning on the organizer’s part.

There were also a lot of cute naked girls. There were a lot of good opportunities for pictures and videos because it was in a public park and not in a private marina like it usually is.

Some of the girls were riskier and more daring than I’ve ever seen. Some of them didn’t even bother painting and just went uncovered. A couple of them stayed naked for hours after the parade and walked casually around the city posing with spectators.

This year I didn’t get naked and ride in the parade and I was able to get more content. (Even though it was funner to participate.)

Here are a couple of pics of two really fun (and high af) girls who stayed naked the whole time

It was cold and threatening rain at the paining party today as Gas Works Park but the turnout was good and the result was excellent. The park worked out fine as a painting venue although there was also a bevy of small painting parties as the traditional venue was not available.

The painting party was a big success despite little planning. Onlookers were uniformly polite and respectful at this rare event in the park.

The parade went well with a new format that shortened the route but allowed for more looping by the cyclists.

John C. has uploaded a good cyclist album already, but no portrait gallery (yet...) I hope there still is one this year!

More parade. Perfect afternoon weather for the ride. Looping made shooting difficult and duration was shorter. But a good painting party made up for that.

Here's a small collection from John Corni cello's album (pho tos.corni cello.com/sol_cyc les2022). Like I said previously, looks like there may be no portrait album this year. :(

The last girl in the gray and pink is a repeat rider

It looks as though you may need to use the advanced search feature and insert a specific date range when searching on mobile. See the link below for more information. There is likely more information in the FAQs section and flickr's help forum.
