Questions about Nudist Resorts (Any experienced nude vacationers?)
Hey everyone!
I'm sure some percentage of you have spent time in nudist resorts (as opposed to public nude beaches). Would some of you mind answering a few questions about your experiences? My wife and I are considering attending one or two in Europe this summer, and insight might be helpful! Here are my questions: 1. Age of participants What's the age population like at most nudist resorts? Does it tend to vary, according to the resort? As background, we are in our early 30s. Zero problem with mingling with folks out of our age bracket, but I don't think we'd want to be the only young-ish naked people! 2. Privacy / Cameras While I'm not necessarily opposed to censored naked pics of my wife being online (wink wink ;)) .... We are definitely opposed to discreet videos/photos being taken of her without her permission...mostly because of her career and the growing power of facial recognition technology. She feels the same. (Side note, I love watching sweaty, naked babes stroll beaches....so I get the temptation. No judgment!). Do you still see or hear examples of people (men, usually) being caught filming or photographing others (women, usually)? I'm sure this is more of a problem at public nude beaches than it is at resorts, but how safe is be naked all day in a resort? 3. Sexuality Many people say that attending nude events/resorts is "not a sexual thing...it's about being free and open." What say you? For me, a BIG part of thinking about it has to do with chatting with and casually enjoying naked women. And letting men ogle at my beautiful wife and her perky tits. Are you all secret voyeurs like me? Or are you just innocent hippies, lol. Thanks! |

Not much to add to what Treblekane has said other than ages can vary depending on the event as well (at least here in the US... haven't been to a resort in Europe yet to comment). For example, Treblekane's photos are from Laguna del Sol near Sacramento, CA (an excellent resort, btw). They have a couple of events that bring out a younger crowd: Nudestock music festival and Naked Man. We've been to Nudestock and there are a lot of younger people during the event... but it is also very crowded in general.
As far as picture taking, I've seen a few get caught and they are immediately confronted. I've seen one guy have to delete the pictures off his phone and then get thrown out. Again, this is in the US. |
Nude spas
Hello
My experience is mostly from Germany and Holland. Though there are nude beaches as well as naturist resorts in both countries, I would say that the most common 'nude venue' is the mixed nude spa. A small nude spa has an indoor area with e.g. saunas, jacuzzis and lounges and is typically attached to a Hotel or a gym. Medium sized nude spas often add an outdoor area for suntanning and are either niched stand-alone spas (e.g. Sauna Deco in Amsterdam with its glorious Art Deco interior design) or attached to large hotels or gyms. They usually include at least a cafe' for sandwiches, smoothies and coffee and sometimes offer 'wellness'. i.e. (non-erotic) massage and/or beauty treatments. Large nude spas have loads of different types of saunas and pools, acres of lounge areas, large outdoor areas for nude suntanning, one or more restaurants, and usually also offer extensive wellness. In my view, medium and large sized nude spas are more or less to be viewed as luxurious and quiet naturist resorts, with the exception that most of them 'only' offer day visits (though some actually have attached hotels and/or caravan sites). So you don't get the 'membership in a club' feeling from them. On the other hand, regulars tend to visit at the same day and time in the week and sort of form their own clubs (I belonged to the Tuesday evening club in one of them). Niched spas have a niched clientele (e.g. those who like Sitar music and incence, I personally don't). Large spas might have a theme (e.g. Vabali Spa with 'Balinese type architecture and food') but nevertheless attract a wide variety of ages and usually an even mix of men and women. Children are few and far between since they are either not allowed or supposed to 'stay quiet and don't run around' which they seldom like. The reason is that these nude spas are for relaxation, and the saunas tend to be almost meditative places. So, the nude spas are not like family type naturist resorts. Open sexuality is not allowed. Some spas allow people to bend the rules a bit, but that's usually just because they are too lazy to keep order, and they pay for it with decreasing numbers of customers. Can a woman show off ? Sure, if she is not too blatant about it, and it certainly does happen. But mostly their nudity is of the I-could-not-care-less type. Can a man run around with an erection ? Nope, but if a couple has been sitting together in a Jacuzzi and the mans boner from it is briefly visible when he leaves it until he has quickly donned his robe which is on a nearby peg then noone will bother. Regards /KG |
Nudist Resorts
The other replies have mostly covered it, but I will add a couple notes:
1. Age varies a lot between resorts and days of the week. Midweek you sometimes see more older/retired people while the younger, working class, show up on the weekends. Some of the resorts that have been around a long time will have an older clientele. 2. Cameras are strictly forbidden in most places, however, that doesn't mean you can't sneak some photos of your wife, especially at your campsite (as illustrated above). Just be discrete and make sure no other people are in the frame. 3. Open sexuality is not allowed in nudist/CO resorts, but you will see it in places that cater to lifestyle folks. It should be clear from their web sites about what is allowed. You might see/hear some activity at nudist places, but it's kept on the down low. |
Just spent a long weekend at Mira Vista in Tucson. Very nice resort, great turnout (packed, no rooms or condos available), AANR but very sexy environment, wonderful dance club with a lot of sexy dancing/grinding/groping.
Obviously age skewed towards retirees (they have the time and money), but a strong showing of middle-aged couples and quite a few 20-30 somethings. Cameras? Uh, no. We did take some photos around the grounds in the early hours...but nothing involving nudity. Blatant, open sexuality? I saw hand holding and kissing (which can get you kicked out at some of the real puritanical AANR places), but no touching except for in the dance club. They seem to really let people cut loose there. Also: Saw a few black silicon rings and pineapple hats around the pool...wifey asked what the pineapple thing was and why some were right side up and others upside down. Will be skipping other resorts in California from now on and head to Tucson for our Memorial and Labor Day weekends. |

Pineapple

The google tells me this A pineapple that is placed on your porch or mailbox by swingers lets everyone know that there is a swinger party going on. A pineapple that is turned upside down is when there is someone looking for a swinger party. Swingers also use the symbol to look for each other in public. |
My wife and I both have black wedding style bands we wear on our right hands when we go out looking for others.

The answers so far covered the questions pretty well. My 4 cents:
1. Age of participants It varies from resort to resort; but on average I would say: 10% under 30, 25% between 30 and 40, 65% over 40. 2. Privacy / Cameras Expressly forbidden at most resorts Quote:
My wife and I are very social, and it is fun interacting with people completely naked. But "nudist etiquette" compels us not to linger "too long" on their body parts (which can be a bit challenging if the person in front of you is "esthetically pleasing" to the eye). But if you put out "friendly vibes" you will probably get to interact with nudists and experience "seeing and being seen naked." |

The actual pineapple on the front porch or mailbox is a meme...like the myth of having a large white landscaping rock out front of your house if you're open to swinging.
Rather, the upside down pineapple is a joke that some LS folks use for laughs. You can buy shirts, hats, beach towels, etc., with upside down pineapples and it's meant as a fun icebreaker. The first time we saw them was in Key West, many years ago; we've seen them here and there ever since. We've actually ordered a few tank tops in advance of our fall trip to Desire Pearl. If you are so inclined to participate: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=upside+do...s_ts-doa-p_1_6 |
To the subject of photography. In most cases it is outright forbidden. We have not been there for quite some time, not because of it. But there was, maybe still is a nude beach on one of the isalnds around Navarre, Florida. There are a lot of cameras on the gulf floor, so someone once told us. I don't know how they will handle cellphones, as they have cameras as well.

One more question!
Thanks for answering my original question everyone! I learned a lot.
Just one more question. Some of you spoke of the difference between nude spas v.s. nude resorts v.s. nude beaches. Nude spas are mostly indoor facilities, is that right? Of the three, my guess is that nude spas would be the most difficult environment for men to hide cameras, and creep on women. Does that sound right? I'd guess that the easiest place to film naked women is on nude beaches, followed by nude resorts, followed by nude spas - which are probably the "safest" option, assuming your sexy wife doesn't want to end up on the internet naked. TLDR; I want my beautiful wife to be nakey in front lots of people — but I don't want her to unwillingly end up on the internet forever. Is a spa the best bet? |
Hi
Firstly, while all the info about different types of nudist places in the US in this thread is interesting, it might be not-so-relevant w.r.t. nudist places in Europe (and then there are of course a lof of differences within Europe). Secondly, most (but not all) large nude spas in Germany and Holland have large outdoor areas for sunbathing and often quite a lot of pools as well. Look e.g. on the net for Vabali Spa in Berlin and Mediterana outside Köln (Cologne). Best regards /KG |

I'm sure spas can be fun; but they can't compare to the amenities the resorts have to offer. IMHO, it's just a lot more fun to walk around naked at the resort; outdoors, from the pool area to the hot-tub. |
Why do women willingly go nude?
I have often been curious why my wife, who at times is quite conservative in her public dress when shopping and eating out, so willingly goes nude at nude resorts and nude beaches. I hesitated to ask her to go to nude resorts for years, and then she asked me if I wanted to go. Our first visit, she took to nudity like a fish out of water. We were scheduled to stay only 3 days and nights. The third day, she asked if we could stay the week. She prances around nude at the resorts as if she had all her clothes on. She dances at the clubs totally nude and shakes every bit of her body. She dances with other nude men when I am not readily available (buying drinks or going to the restroom, etc.). Once she only had on a see-thru belly dancing skirt and went up and tied it around the best woman dancer on the floor, and then they danced on the top of a table the entire song with my wife nude and the other woman wearing only my wife's belly dancing skirt.
My wife seems as much at ease talking to other nude men at the resorts as she does talking to clothed men in regular settings. She has gone out swimming with other nude guys and has swam while pulling them around like a lifeguard does when he is saving a drowning person. i.e. with their heads resting against her boobs as she swims backwards with them on their backs. When I ask her how she feels so comfortable nude in front of other nude people, she says that there is something about nudity that drops all pretensions. She says that wearing a very brief bikini doesn't do the same thing. She also states that no one can hide anything when entirely naked, and that she has learned that there are few perfect bodies out there. She has come to terms that her body is not perfect, but neither are 99% of the other bodies out there. I asked her if she enjoys looking at and even hugging other nude men. She says that she doesn't look that much and hugging them doesn't excite her anymore than if they were clothed. She says that she has decided that my dick looks as good as any out there. I then said, "You know I don't have the biggest dick out there." She agreed, but said that she looks at the whole package -- dick, balls, etc. She claims that is where I can compete. I don't know whether what she says is B.S. or true on all accounts above. I would like to hear what other women say about so readily going to nude beaches and nude resorts and their willingness to do so. Could this be some way that she is being a little promiscuous while it is generally acceptable in many circles? Just curious. |
Some women really feel "freed" in a nudist setting: the "shackles are off" and they just cut loose and have fun. In many cases sex has nothing to do with it; it's just about being free with their bodies, which they don't often get to experience outside of that setting without being labeled a "thot" or harassed.
My wife is more reserved; but still has fun sunbathing, swimming naked. I think she's pretty representative of the "average nudist female." Her approach to social nudity is that if someone is openly naked in front of her - and being friendly - she's going to be ok with them seeing her completely naked too. It's more about mutual respect on being on the same "playing field." When you take into account the many personality types (extravert, introvert, ambivert, etc...), women will respond differently to social nudity. Some enjoy being the center of attention, others not so much; and some are somewhere in between. Women with a high libido might get some "excitement" from social nudity; and there's nothing wrong with that as long as no one gets offended. Location plays a part too. At the family-oriented, AANR-affiliated resort we frequent, my wife is more about "blending in." We also go to an couples/adult-only venue, where there are less rules; and she will be more care-free (to a point). I've talked about the "pool table situation" where she had so much fun - alcohol being a factor - that she got a little flirtatious while playing pool with another couple. She's also much less concerned about laying around legs open there. So depending on where they are, women might be more or less "comfortable" with social nudity as well. So to answer your question: it really depends on the woman herself. They all get something a bit different from it. |
My wife and I go on nudist resort vacations. She has no problem being nude and I enjoy showing her off. At home she is shy and conservative. She will always wear a bra and panties when we go out. She says what will everyone think? At the resort she just blends in with everyone else! I sure she appreciates the admiring looks she gets from all the men! That is part of why she goes!

That's much to do with them now being empty-nesters and able to indulge in something that they've maybe wanted to do their entire adult lives but the issue of earning a living, raising a family and so on gets in the way. The average age of Spanish and French naturists might be lower, 30s-40s, as any I've spoken to have grown up with that way of life. 2. If you're sneaking photos, expect to get thrown out and rightly so. There's a gender imbalance to naturism, it's much more attractive to males, and it's hard to get ladies to strip off to create a better balance. And it they're minded that someone is taking sneaky photos, who can blame them? Besides, it's all about being in the moment, not living the naturist experience second hand through a phone or camera lens. 3. Naturism is a magnet for gay people, men mostly, so expect there to be some emphasis on the gay lifestyle (i.e. certain bars bedecked in the rainbow flag, etc). They'll not be flaunting their sexuality, other than being drawn to certain locations. There's exceptions. Cap D'Agde in France is one where (hetero)sexuality is very much front and centre, but I wouldn't consider that to be a genuine naturist location any longer. |
Cap d'Agde is just about being naked for maybe 20% of the visitors there. There are still families with kids, and I have no idea why as there are many alternatives for families.
The rest are people looking for sexual arousal or activities. One can see them everywhere. It is one of the most liberal places on earth. |
Another thread
I have written another thread “can you be more exposed at a nudist club?” Giving our experiences at nudist clubs and resorts around the U.S. before cell phones in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Yes, my wife was photographed without permission at Black’s Beach in San Diego and published in a girlie magazine full frontal nude. The guys at my office loved it but it was quickly forgotten. I have copies of the magazine I still share with friends and my wife doesn’t care. Who doesn’t in their 20’s? As to sex, groping underwater is very common but so it is at our home pool with friends. Open sex in public? Only when a small group alone agrees to it. In California, in a large hot tub sunk into the ground with just us and a cute newlywed couple, we spoke and agreed sex was ok. We groped each other then we had sex side by side with our spouses. More details in my thread. |
At Desire Resort in Cancun, the would play volleyball in the pool. Mixed teams. The women were allowed to grope the guys but the guys could not grope the women.
In the rooftop jacuzzi, the guys at on the side and the women sucked their cocks. Later, my wife sat on the side and I went down on her. She quickly came and invited others to eat her. |
Another thought
My wife and I got very serious early in our dating and she was never serious with anyone else. On our fourth date she met and got to touch and taste my penis. One thing she loved about nudist clubs and beaches was seeing the various shapes and sizes of men’s organs. She loved to see something new or exceptional and she talked to me about it. And seeing a man get an erection was believed to be a great compliment.

Besides the occasional random guy who does a "double-take" as my wife bends over or lays with her legs open, I can't say we've ever been bothered. |
Erections
My wife and I have only been to nude beaches and AANR Clubs. In our experience, there is of flirting and some touching but it is not obvious.
-she will ask males at the shower if they would like to share a shower. What occurs is a lot of checking out who might be watching, like kids, and checking if they are ok with touching everything when soaping up. She has also soaped up females too and enjoyed it. I have gotten erect in a shower with a lady I didn’t know. There were too many around to jerk me off in the shower and a bj was out of the question. Fortunately she was skillful and got me off while drying me with a large towel. My wife and I have both asked new shower friends to meet us after the shower at a more private location. -in the jacuzzi with the bubbles on, most are comfortable touching under the water. I have been successful haveing nude ladies sit on my palm-up hand in the jacuzzi and slipping one or two fingers into the new friend. You can tell by her expression and her comments to you if you are doing a good job.Women have wiggled and asked me if I could stay for a while. Women tell each other things and I have been asked by ladies if they could sit beside me. “ I am a friend of xxx and she said I should meet you” If the jacuzzi is not crowded or if people are spaced far apart, you can get jacked-off. - the pool is a difficult challenge. If no one is around, just watch out carefully. On the west coast we shared a massive pool and we thought we interrupted a young couple making out. I asked them if they would be offended if my wife and I enjoyed some oral sex. In minutes, my face was in my wife’s lap and the young man was getting a bj beside us. We have found many nudists and others enjoy seeing others having sex but you need to talk about first. And watching is not swapping. My wife and I have taught probably two dozen nudists how to prepare for great anal sex and learned how to do a great pubic massage. |
