British Comedy
 

Having noticed the recent thread "Older Sexy Comedy" by member spooled, about comedy shows that have nudity in them, brought me to mind the sketches of Dave Allen, one of the first "Alternative Comedians" (before it came to mean alternative to comedy). His show ran from 1971 to 1986, and was one of the first comedians to have nudity in some of his sketches. Indeed, although labelled alternative, many of his gags have a Benny Hill feel to them, though how Dave Allen used nudity was somewhat inventive.

Like this first sketch, from Series 2, which involves a Hypnotist show, which has always fascinated me. I love the beginning part when Allen (as the hypnotist) calls for a volunteer, and when a man stands up he tells him "Thank you sir, but I prefer to use a female. You will understand why after I have demonstrated." It's obvious why, as audience member Jacqueline Clarke is encouraged onto the stage, but it doesn't work out quite how he expects it. I could foresee one part of the twist, but the nudity part is quite an eye opener for 1972. Enjoy.

Dave Allen - Dangerous Waters
 

This sketch came from Series 5 of Dave Allen at Large, and involves a woman wandering along a bank where it has a warning sign saying "Dangerous Waters - Swimming Prohibited." And there's a very good reason for this, as when she decides to tip her toe in the water she suddenly falls in - only to come back up and find herself devoid of all her clothes! There's a reason for this, in typical Dave Allen fashion, but not something you expect to see pop up in a comedy show in the 1970's. The actress involved is believed to be Doran Godwin, who took over for the 5th series from Jacqueline Clarke, and who had notable success on TV in Emma (1972), Quiet As a Nun (1978) and Shoestring (1979-80). I've slowed the video down to it's normal speed, as where I came across it the speed was faster than usual, but I've also slowed it down for the naked parts as well. By the way, the only reason I've included the beginning sketch is so you can see what the actress actually looks like, as the video quality is not as good as I'd like it to be. Anyway, enjoy.

War Games (1973)
 

This clip from Dave Allen at Large (Series 3, to be exact) involves Jacqueline Clarke as a wren being torn off a strip - literally - by Dave Allen's army officer, who sets about stripping her costume with much vigour. Indeed, in one scene he nearly pulls her over such is his enthusiasm! Although it doesn't feature any nudity, I know many are interested in the "women in underwear" situation, and it being a Dave Allen sketch I felt it was worth posting here. Also included is a photo of what Jacqueline looked like on the show. Enjoy.

Dave Allen - Wishbone (1979)
 

This sketch would equally of suited the "Imagined Naked" thread here: https://forum.oneclickchicks.com/sho...14#post2930714), but as this is the Dave Allen thread, and a Dave Allen sketch to boot, this is why this video is here. The premise is simple. At a restaurant a couple finish their meal and the wife (Jacqueline Clarke) offers her hubby (Dave Allen) a wishbone to pull, just as a attractive waitress comes to the table with dessert (played by Susan Baker, I believe). I think you can guess the rest. I do wish the video quality was better, but it's nice to see how they had no qualms about showing nudity in the 70's comedies.

Dave Allen - Strip Duel (1985)
 

This sketch was from Dave Allen's Xmas 1985 show, and unveiled more than a few baubles that year. The sketch itself involves two old duffers in wheelchairs (Dave Allen and Michael Sharvell Martin) intent on fighting a duel - but with a difference. For they each have with them a comely young lady, with the object being that the girls would strip to excite the other's gentleman and whoever drops dead of a heart attack, the other would win. There's no disguising that this sketch is nothing more than just to see two women strip off for the sake of it, and I doubt even Benny Hill was so blatant as this, but quite frankly, who cares? It's great fun, and a real eye opener considering this was a Xmas episode! Sadly, I don't know the names of the two ladies, but they earned their money here, that's for sure! Enjoy.

Adam and Eve (1972)
 

Thanks for the info, spooled, and glad you liked it. It is certainly an eye opener! Sadly, not many other nude clips from Dave Allen - unless his Australian shows have more revealing sketches, that is - so here is a Adam and Eve sketch he did with Jacqueline Clarke, his regular female colleague in the show. It's short but sweet, and the costume for both is somewhat skimpy, to say the least. Now what would of been really an eye opener in comedy is if they had done the sketch as they would of been back then - fully naked!

One more Adam and Eve sketch that I missed from Dave Allen at Large to make up the nudity quota from his UK shows. And unless his Australian shows have more revealing sketches, this is the last of the videos of his. Still, it's been fun seeing what he came up with, and here he is again with Jacqueline Clarke, who this time you get to see front and back - even if she IS still wearing fig leaves. I only wish it was a better quality picture. Anyway, enjoy.

Margaret Nolan - Q (1975)
 

I've decided to rename my thread "British Comedy", as then I can add videos from other UK shows to build up this thread, and also not encroach on Spooled's own wonderful thread "Older Sexy Comedy", which focuses on comedy from European countries. So here is a clip from Spike Milligan's comedy world of "Q", a show that ran from 1969 to 1982 (though later called There's a Lot of It About in it's final years). This sketch is typically mad, which should become apparent when I tell you it involves Adolf Hitler, Quasimodo and Svengali. It also involves a naked Margaret Nolan, who is starkers throughout the sketch, which if it had been Benny Hill it would of caused a fit of the vapours among viewers. I'm astonished they managed to get away with it back then, to be honest. I shan't give any details of what happens, as I don't wish to spoil the madcap sketch, but with current world affairs as they are it not only satirizes the darkly absurd, but is a great escape from it all. Just sit back and enjoy - whether because of the sketch or just seeing Margaret Nolan without a stitch on!

Barbara Wise - Milligan in Summer (1973)
 

Another offshoot from Spike Milligan's "Q" series, this was from a sketch show called "Milligan in...", which detailed each season. This particular scene comes from the Summer section, and sees Barbara Wise seemingly posing nude for an artist. But with it being Spike, there is an absurd twist to the sketch. Apologies for the picture quality by the way, but these are finds from the net and videos of Milligan's shows are hard to find, other than old recordings due to the fact they are rarely repeated.

There's a Lot of It About (Ep 1) (1982)
 

More from Spike Milligan's sketch show, this is listed as Episode 1 on You tube, but checking on the toplessreview site (where I find out a lot of the important info about which actresses have gone nude, or just what TV programme has nudity), the two sketches I have from this video listed them from Ep 3 and 5. So you'll just have to trust You tube for the reference to which episode this is from for now.

The scenes from this episode involve a shadow puppeteer doing hand work on a cinema screen involving an unknown actress, then a doctor's sketch with Val Penny (the sketch before that follows this was only included as I thought it was the same woman and you don't really see the face of the patient), then a sketch involving Linzi Drew and a cash machine, before what I believe is Val Penny again as a police woman in a sketch where Spike's copper turns out the lights so the culprit can return stolen goods, only for them to find their clothes have been stripped instead. Considering how depressing life is at the moment, this offers up some surreal light hearted relief. Enjoy.

Stonehenge Holiday - There's a Lot of It About (Ep 2) (1982)
 

This video comes from Episode 2 of Spike Milligan's There's a Lot of It About (1982), and is a holiday sketch involving Spike as David Attenborough exploring the mysteries of Stonehenge, but holidaying in Hawaii as "it looks better surroundings." It's a great satirical point on the BBC wasting expenses on free trips abroad while doing programmes about England, and a possible dig at David Attenborough's own many excursions while lecturing about the planet years before it's time. However, the most important issue in this video for admirers of the female flesh is the nudity involved, and among the topless girls featured is Linzi Drew, who appears as his secretary and is mostly topless throughout, including on a plane. It would also fall foul of the PC brigade nowadays - some of Spike's material really IS eye raising at times - but for fans of nudity in comedy, it's remarkable to see it so brazen on TV in 1982.

There's a Lot of It About (Ep 3) (1982)
 

Finishing off from what I could find of Spike Milligan's There's a Lot of It About series from 1982, this is purportedly from Episode 3, and sketches involving nudity include one about a woman who for every wrong answer has items of her furniture removed - including the bath with her daughter in it! Then a scene involving Spike in bed with a topless dark haired girl who decides to say it with flowers. She is fully naked, but unfortunately it's too dark to see much full frontal of her. It's not the last clip I have from the manic world of Spike Milligan, but it is from the TV series There's a Lot of It About.

Milligan in Autumn (1972)
 

A couple of sketches from Milligan in Autumn from 1972. The quality of the video is sadly not top notch, due to the fact that Spike Milligan is rarely ever repeated, so an old recording. It is also in B&W, but it is how I found it online, and also back in the 1970's the Unions did have a habit of striking, so anytime they were doing that the programmes would be broadcast in B&W, so this could be why Milligan in Summer is in colour and this is not.

The first sketch involves a group of priests in a surreal competition where a naked woman lies in full view of them and whoever resists the most from touching her wins that round. The other sketch is a very dark spoofing of Blue Peter, which involves Madeline Smith as one of the presenters and involves strip poker, bondage and S&M! I'll leave you to just watch the sketch for it's utter strangeness, but it does involve Madeline stripped to just skimpy underwear. This is the last of what I have from Spike Milligan, though I do have another video to add here sometime tomorrow hopefully. And for those who wish to see even more of Madeline, then here are a couple of stills from Up Pompeii (1971), including a rare shot of her bum (as apparently she hated showing her bum for some reason). Linda Thorson - The Howerd Confessions (1976)
 

This video comes from The Howerd Confessions (1976), a short lived TV series where each week Frankie Howerd told viewers of an incident that he ended up getting embroiled in. This clip comes from Episode 5, and features a surprisingly revealing showing of former Avengers star Linda Thorson, who plays the wife of Frankie's old Sgt Major. Frankie ends up at the house, only for her to come down and find him there, appearing in a see through negligee that you can clearly see her breasts through. If you can't believe it, neither can Frankie. "Can you see what I think I can see?" he asks, but yes, she is (practically) topless. And it seems that she is a 'neglected wife', as she is more concerned with getting Frankie into bed than calling the police. Unfortunately for Frankie, soon after her husband comes home early...

Thanks Spooled. I'm glad there are members happy to keep this thread going, and nice to see a better quality video of Margaret Nolan. Spike Milligan is certainly an acquired taste at times, but he knew with the amount of nudity he had in his shows, he was always going to pull in the viewers!

I'll have a look through what I've got and see what else could go in this thread. Firstly here's Candy Davis pretending to be a streaker at a snooker match from an episode of OTT, and then also in Are You Being Served getting her dress blown up.

If you search her name then there's a couple more clips of her on OCC, including her appearance in a miss nude contest (pictured below). She was always worth a look.

Carol Cleveland Monty Python
 

A couple of scenes from the BluRay release of this classic comedy, including the one where Carol's bra is ripped off by a cactus. Sadly shot from behind.

I read an interview where she said she was supposed to be running towards the camera, but that a crowd had formed to watch the filming and she asked them to let her run the other way. Selfish crowd. I've included a picture of her properly topless to try and compensate.

Goodies S01E04
 

For most of its run this was a family friendly show, but the first series had some brief nudity. First up a sketch set in a women's baths, sadly, like Spike Milligan above, only now surviving in B&W. This clip also includes Liz Fraser having her skirt pulled up.

(Apologies if these are here already, 'Goodies' shows up in loads of search results that are nothing to do with the show, so it was impossible to check.)

Well, someone managed to track down what episode the beach clip I mentioned was from, so here it is. Her top is slightly transparent, but she's certainly not topless.

Hark at Barker (1969)
 

I didn't expect to come across another British comedy with nudity in, especially so far back as 1969. But I did by chance after watching a documentary of the Ronnie Barker sitcom Porridge. In it it showcased Barker's early career, including a clip from a TV series he did called Hark at Barker from 1969 to 1970. And in episode 2 of the first series (titled Rustless and Women) there is a clip of him as an artist who lets in a female model, who promptly drops her coat to reveal she is naked. For 1969 this is quite a surprise, and although the scene is brief it doesn't stint on the nudity. I'm afraid I don't know the name of the actress, but the only two listed in the credits who are a possibility are Dave Allen's regular hoppo Jacqueline Clarke and the late Jo Kendall, who worked with the Monty Python team before this and later became famous for her role as Peggy Skilbeck in the TV soap Emmerdale Farm. And frankly the woman in this video doesn't really look like either of them! The only other unfortunate thing is that Barker's sculptor looks rather similar to another now disgraced Aussie artist, whose name just escapes me...

Sarah Alexander: Nude Practice
 

Thought it might be worth posting some more recent stuff, to remind us that comedic nudity is timeless. Here's the established comedian Sarah Alexander full frontal in the Armstrong & Miller show; I've not been able to source any better resolution footage, it looks like it was taken off a VHS. This was 1997. Any improvement would be very welcome.

My second thought was for the actress Pippa Haywood in an episode of the Tracy Ullman Show (UK). I don't have this clip but clearly remember it from the iplayer. There was a lot of controversy at the time as to whether, like Ullman, she was wearing topless prosthetics in 'parliament'. I'm firmly of the belief that it was all Pippa. If anyone has this, it's a bit of a Holy Grail for me.:):):)

Really?!? I've only posted better quality and longer versions of my #1 most favorite nude scene of all-time here about two dozen times, in threads devoted just to it. Like here and here and here.

And attached is the "topless MPs" sketch from "Tracey Ullman's Show". Clearly looks like prosthetics to me. You can see a rubbery sheen on it, and it noticeably contrasts with her actual skin around her neck. I frankly don't quite understand what the point of doing that is. If you're going to do a sketch where it appears that you're that realistically topless, then why not just go topless? :confused:

Thanks on both counts Mr F, you're a hero :D. I did have that same version of the Nude Practice sketch but thought it would fall foul of the forum's 'no watermarks' rule- there's a clear P@r@mount logo.

On the Tracy Ullman, fantastic, thanks- but all kind of things convince me that Haywood's nudity was real. First, Ullman's prosthetics are blatantly false, with no skin variegation and simplistic moulding, matt shadowing etc. Haywood's 'chest' colouration is much more subtle, with a healthy sheen. Second, Haywood's flash is just a second or so, compared with Ullman's 30 secs or so. Also, Ms Haywood was in her 50s, which explains the skin tonal difference between her usually exposed neck and her less exposed chest.

I don't know, these arguments were well had when it first aired, opinions are opinions. But your excellent high res video has just convinced me further after all this time! :)

She’s stated in several interviews that it was all prosthetics.

That rule only applies to website URLs and copyright symbols. TV network logos have always been OK.

There's no comparison to me between Ullman's crude chestplate and Haywood's realistic one. I'm pretty unshakeable in my belief here, but like I say I'm not trying to convert anybody. Make up your own minds...

The Dick Emery Comedy Hour (1979)
 

These are a couple of sketches that appear on The Dick Emery Comedy Hour from 1979 that I thought some on here might like. Both are pretty funny and although I don't know the name of the actress in the first sketch, the girl facing the firing squad in the 2nd is Debbie Linden, who died tragically young. Once a Page 3 girl, Debbie appeared in a number of film and TV stuff, including for Benny Hill, and her nude film appearances were Home Before Midnight (1979), The Ghost Sonata (1980,TV), The Wildcats of St Trinians (1980) and The Odd Job Man (1984). Sadly, Debbie also had a heroin addiction that lasted until an overdose in 1997 killed her. She was just 36.

There's a Benny Hill parody at the end of the episode called "Chubby Chumps". The plot has the boys being chased in fast motion by some girls in fat suits. After a few minutes of being chased around, they notice that the girls have lost all their extra weight and their long dresses are hanging loose on them. The Goodies stop running and and blow hard, causing the girls' dresses to blow off. Then the tables turn and they chase after the girls - it's hard to tell if they're wearing bikinis under the dresses or brightly colored 1970s underwear.

Car Wash EUF - Dick Emery Hour (1980)
 

Dick Emery gets a touch of the Benny Hills in this sketch that opens his Dick Emery Hour special in 1980. In this clip Dick is at a garage when he notices a pretty blonde and then spots a suction hose and decides to try his luck. He proves lucky, as it sucks off the clothes of the unsuspecting blonde, who gasps in embarrassment before running back to her car to get in and hide. It's short, and sadly i don't know the name of the blonde, but it fits for this thread and I hope you enjoy it regardless.
