Byron bay is fast becoming best WNBR in the world! Aus has been a few years behind the rest of the world, but it's really taking off here. The quality I saw in Byron this year was top notch!!!

I know that people don't appreciate a bunch of chatter being added to a thread like this, but I wanted to mention how much I love the Byron shots and why they stand out compared to other WNBR events.
  • Great photography - very rich color and sharp focus
  • Lots of young people
  • Lots of people in great shape
  • Lots of people willingly posing and looking happy to be there

With the current global situation, does anyone else fear that most of these rides will not take place this year? I hope that is not the case, but it looks increasingly likely!

Almost certainly at this point. Missing Roskilde is gonna suck.

I really hope this is all over soon. I have big plans for a few events including the Fremont Solstice parade. I already bought my plane tickets and booked hotel rooms and I have all my camera gear and body paint ready. It'll be a huge bummer if the events are cancelled.

Sadly, the UK government are going to announce quarantine for the over 70s for four months, so if they began that tomorrow it takes us to mid July. OK, I know not many over 70s are on the rides apart from a few guys maybe but they can't allow big outdoor gatherings when such a large chunk of the population are still shut up indoors. So no Glastonbury, Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and unfortunately WNBR I suggest.

ozjake2 03-16-2020 05:00 PM

Sydney WNBR first to be cancelled

As suspected - the cancellations have begun:(

My city's is in July/august so who knows

JammyS 03-18-2020 02:05 PM

major bummer

Alas, I too fear this is fated to be a very short thread. Ironically the naked bike rides are likely to be low risk- generally participants inevitably remain a metre or two away from each other, the elements quickly disperse any localised contagion, and there are few shared surfaces involved. Advice is that outdoors exercise is even encourageable for those self isolating, for mental and physical health reasons.

But the symbolism of the events are such that when all other gatherings are cancelled, the organisers won't want to risk being accused of reckless behaviour, or worse. Let's hope it doesn't make a permanent dent in future ride participation. :(:(:(

As a minor aside, the Beltane festival in Edinburgh is also cancelled.

Not to be negative, but I think the risk is the opposite. Many riders are right up against each other and intrusive photographers routinely jump out and lean right in to take a shot.

Well at the moment I think our planet has more important things to worry about than whether a few people get their kit off or not.

Agreed. I'd rather we all stay healthy so that we can have more WNBRs even if some of this year's are cancelled.
