I'm not sure if this is once a year Epiphany bathing, or a regular thing. Either way:

Clearly not Epiphany
Source of these pics? Any more where they came from?
Clearly not Epiphany because Epiphany is in January, and these are obviously in the summertime... |
Nice
Thanks for introducing me to something new. I just hope there is more to come.

Translating the notice - "leave under it underwear"
1 Attachment(s)
I used OCR and online translation on the notice in the 2nd picture of
https://forum.oneclickchicks.com/sho...7&postcount=11 and got: СЕСТРЫ ! --- SISTERS! WE ASK YOU TO DRESS [Christmas/Baptismal] SHIRT, LEAVE UNDER IT UNDERWEAR. HAVE A BEAUTIFUL ??? === It seems, in that place, women are asked to keep their underwear on. Perhaps someone who reads Russian can do a better translation. Others have shown that the winter pictures are of Epiphany (called Theophany by the Orthodox) where they celebrate the visit of the Wise Men and the Baptism of Christ on the same day, hence the immersion in water. Nicer in the Mediterranean in January, where this custom began. Most of the jumping into icy water is done by young men - but for some reason women tend to be photographed more often! January 19 in our Gregorian calendar = January 6 in the old Julian calendar, which many Orthodox use for religious purposes. But, it does not answer the question from the original photos - why is this is happening in summer? Perhaps it is a Russian Orthodox community in the southern hemisphere where it is summer in January. |
Two possibilities, it could be an ex-pat community somewhere like Cyprus or Israel, or it could be a particular holy site that is considered blessed all year round, not just on the day of the Epiphany. It doesn't look like the river Jordan but I know a similar thing happens there all year round. Perhaps some pool where a venerated Russian saint once bathed?

I've done a little digging - initially trying to read the message on this lady's back, but it is just a regular prayer (Hail to the Virgin Mary, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost etc etc).
However I did find out that there is another festival that involves baptism that takes place on July 28th - the Baptism of the Rus' when the ancestor state of the Russian-speaking states was Christianised. It isn't necessarily associated with voluntary immersion the way Epiphany is but it's a popular day for mass baptisms - though the pictures I found all involved a priest. Could it be this is a celebration of that anniversary rather than the winter Epiphany? |
Bumping this thread to share this amazing link - many of the images have small watermarks. There is probably a lot more out there than we realize:

This happens only in Russia and federation countries?? |
a video, but still no end to the mystery
Re. the "Summer Epiphany" pics:
The body shapes and the clothing look typical for the former Soviet realm! Not very good resolution (only 480) but I did find a brief 4-min video of these exact same scenes, and same women, at: https://grigtube.com/videos/5759/ entitled: "Religious women dip in a cold river with her clothes soaking wet"(sic) Some highlights: 0:54 apparent pussy-flash 2:14 topless changing 2:53 a boatsman - (this last item is significant because it also sure looks to be a genuine Eastern European (former Soviet) Slavic region in the summertime; - not Australia or the Mediterranean or the real River Jordan in Israel!) Anybody who can find the video in a sharper, higher resolution, or who can solve the mystery of the exact where and when, please be so kind as to post and share! And please note that these pictures, and this kind of ritual dunking, to the best of my knowledge. have NONE of the typical signs of an Ivana Kupala celebration!!! (= St. John the Baptist's Day / Midsummer's celebration); that is a totally different thread! |

I guess since this well is holy pilgrims can bathe there any time of the year, and this videos are obviously filmed in summer I guess videos and photos posted here originate from this website: https://canrusar.com/wet-boobs/ |

There is a YouTuibe channel with 780 videos. About 95% of the time the women are wearing swimsuits. But, in the remaining 5% they are wearing more revealing attire:
