From my collection. Please when viewing these pictures take account of the age. The original magazines are not of the highest quality, nor are the photographs particularly large.

First magazine from 1940 Folge 4. The title translates as Spirit and Beauty. Folge seems to mean "follow" or maybe "consequences" neither of which make any sense. I suspect it may mean "Issue". Can any German speakers help?

Here in Germany, all people can be nude, if they want.
That's no problem.
We have a lot of spa's in every bigger city.

Geist und Schönheit (Spirit and Beauty) - "for people conscious of their Germanic way of life". Published in 1939 and 1940.

The Nazis had an ambivalent attitude towards naturism. On the one hand they admired health and efficiency, physical prowess, outdoor activities and nudity as matters of Aryan German racial pride. To them "Nordic Aryans" with "perfect" bodies were the only beautiful people. A far cry from today's diverse, body-accepting "all bodies are beautiful" naturists.

On the other hand, the Nazis were suspicious of organized groups they could not control.

I understand that naturism was encouraged at first and then suppressed by the Nazis.

Thanks for this interesting historical collection which also illustrated a certain aesthetic.

I have a lot of old naturist magazines. The German and Scandinavian stuff I will post when I get time.

Would anyone be interested in the English magazines from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. At that stage pubic hair was not permitted to be shown so they were retouched, sometimes subtly, sometimes less so.

Sonnenstrahl - Third booklet 1949
 

For historical interest mainly.

This is the third booklet of 1949, presumably March. At this stage Germany was of course just 4 years in the recovery after the war. The original magazine is printed on poor paper and as a result the pictures are poor quality.

Pic 008 is another of those "naked girl with bow and arrow" pictures which seem to be popular with German magazines. It's inclusion does make me wonder if some of these pictures may be pre-war.

Wearing "le minimum"
 

I remember from long ago some nudist magazines where the girls wore a very small gstring that often did not cover all the pubic hair and the men wore little pouches. I thought it was the Isle de Levant or something like that. They still claimed to be nudists. Have you seen these?
