Hastings beach nude 'flash mob'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25774554

Up to 30 residents took part in a nude flash mob in wet and windy conditions on Hastings beach to attract an acclaimed photographer to the town.

Locals trying to attack Spencer Tunick to their town. Seems like a few towns will be following this idea to attact him.

Anyone got decent photos of this event? The short BBC video in the link above is all hidden nudity but there are photographers there.

I have spotted a serial "nude activist" - she has previously attended the London Zoo 'Streak for Tigers'

Must resist temptation to lecture everyone on OCC about how much I hate Spencer Tunick and his stupid ugly boring opportunistic art every time someone so much as mentions his name, must resist, must resist...

God I hate Spencer Tunick and his stupid ugly boring opportunistic art. Why the heck anyone would want to pose for him, never mind attract him to work in their town is beyond me.

Sorry folks, at least I tried, I really did, honest.

His work isn't my favorite stuff, but it gets women naked, so... I don't see what the problem is.

*braces for rant*

I agree with Fango... but I also understand where jc666 is coming from. Tunick's mass installations kind of take the sexy and erotic quality out nakedness. I think I have a problem with Tunick calling himself an "artist." I don't see too much artistry in his work. He's a good organizer, but artist? Debatable.

Anyone who can make large groups of naked women seem bland...

I much prefer the "behind the scenes" stuff, either people taking off their clothes in preparation for a shoot, or milling about naked waiting for the actual shot, like this:

Artistic merit aside, I would be so fucking happy if he came to my city. I'm a massive exhibitionist myself, so there's that, but the main thing is it would easily represent the best opportunity I'll ever get to see most of my female friends naked - close up, in public, in broad daylight, and according to most reports for at least an hour or two in duration. I've been practicing my pitch for years.

Not on here Fango, this place is too friendly to indulge in ranting. However I'll just say that I find Tunick's work incredibly dull and unengaging. I just wish he'd have another idea, but I guess the money's too good for him to bother trying something else.

Agree but that isn't in itself a bad thing

Exactly. Tunick's work is mostly just the same old same old and that's my big problem with it.

Erm, why not do their OWN mass nude photoshoot?

Because ST has reputation and influence to get numbers.

lafemmeemily 01-26-2014 01:36 PM

i've been in a few spencer tunick shoots at burning man. it's interesting to be in a mass of nude people, most of whom probably wouldn't have taken their clothes off otherwise.

Well, Folkestone won the vote and I cannot see any coverage of the event on OCC...

there's a piece in the local paper, and a short BBC film, but nothing more visible than a cheeky buttock.

Of course if you were there last Thursday, possibly walking your dog along the Warren beach (and a few people were!) you would have seen a whole load of naked people including 3 or 4 pretty young things under 25. And if you visited the Georges House Gallery in Folkestone between Saturday and Tuesday, you would have been able to look at tiny little keyscope images of every single participant full frontal, and meet most of them who turned up to collect their keyscopes.

Unfortunately there were only 2 images of each participant printed, all of them were put in plastic keyscopes, 125 were handed out to the participants and the other 125 are back with the artist. I've not seen any of them leaked onto the internet, though I was lucky enough to see all the images and speak to many of the participants at the exhibition. I did see a few people taking pictures of some of the images (apparently the rule was "you're allowed to do your own"). So in the circumstances it seemed rude not to take the opportunity...

This really is an OCC exclusive. I've no idea who the girl is, I didn't see her at the exhibition, every other picture is exactly the same background, just different bodies each time.

I agree, the actual 'installations' are fairly dull but the incidental shots of everday ladies are good.
Cue for new thread maybe - Tunick behind the scenes?

Memo to people of Hastings : You're going to need to do better than that ... a LOT better :D

Spencer works with hundreds (sometime thousands) of people ... not twenty !

And he uses complete nudes ... at some distance from their clothes.

So these people should have got undressed, left their clothes in their cars and walked out to the end of a pier or something. Leave it to the BBC (or other media outlets) to add in the nonsense to obscure the naughty bits ... don't hide behind banners.

Seriously, if you haven't got the nerve to stand totally naked in front of a camera with nothing to hide behind then you are virtually proving to someone like Spencer that you're not the people he's looking for !!!
