Hi there, this is my first post. I love the non fiction section of this site and figured I would contribute with my own stories of going through other peoples cellphones I have come across.

I am a restaurant manager and am constantly being handed cellphones that patrons have left behind. The proper procedure is for me to take it into the office and lock it in a safe untill we hear from the owner. I have an Galaxy SIII. Needless tell its super HQ video and picture quality. So most of the time I use it to picture or record my gf. Even our fucks. When I was with my ex, I provided her brother with a cell phone. He brought it over one day because he spilled soda on it and it wasn't working right. I had insurance on it so was going to bring it in to be looked at. While waiting for the car to warm up I clicked the phone on so I could at least have a better idea of what to tell the technician what was wrong. You can open up the bottom of the laptop, just a few screws. Then remove the HD. Then you can buy from places on the internet (newegg?) an empty case for an external HD (2.5 in). Open that case, insert HD, close case, plug it into your computer and browse through that new diskdrive. Copy off all the good stuff.

Has anyone an idea how to force a Samsung SGH X510 to work with Windows 8 or Windows 7?
- I have the proper data cable, the PC Suite II from Samsung which supports that phone.......but it's software from 2003 and doesn't work with Win7/Win8.....

The computer doesn't recognize the phone as just another drive, like E, or F, or G?

unfortunately not, Samsung Phones of that age didn't work that way.....they needed this special PC Suite to transfer data......

If there's an SD slot in the phone - add an SD card, copy the photos to the SD card - then remove the SD card and plug that into your windows PC. There are adapters to USB for most sizes of SD cards.

a) find someone who still has XP
b) maybe use MMS?
c) get the Win7 software?
d) Is there a Mac or Linux software option?

a) tried, but the Computer wasn't connected to the Internet and I couldn't get the phone to work
b) The X510 doesn't support MMS that size (VGA, ridiculous..)
c) the phone is 7 years old, I couldn't find a software running on Win7 supporting the phone
d) as far as I know....unfortunately not....

I am an armed security officer in a highly secure facility where all employees must pass explosive as well as metal detectors. All possessions must also be placed through an x-ray screening machine. My fellow officers and I often have to man this particular security post. It amazes me how often people will leave something behind at the machine. Often times, it is a cell phone that gets left behind and it will sit with us sometimes for hours. One of the ways we have to find out who it belongs to is to call one of the numbers listed in the contacts and explain to whoever answers, what the situation is, so at least the owner will know where he/she left it. So, it is not unusual for one of us to be snooping through the phone. It is too tempting to just stop at their contacts, however, and the photo gallery is always one of the first hings we check out.

Most phones the are apps that you can buy to keep pics locked away in. Would stop most snoopers finding. As for covering tracks, I've had lots of pics on my phone in messages. Always lock them away. Just incase. I know there are people like me around who would look ;-)

My guess is she only likes to give a show off. I even don't know what it would be needed for but you can never guess what would satisfy people.

Probably for just the reason that people like me might pick it up and go through it.

It's not like I have a lot of time to search the phone when she leaves it behind though. I can't very well be caught with it in hand.
