No, this is not an "attempt at a thread" but a "skinny-dip record attempt" thread!!!

OK, how many times in the past year have you said to yourself "darn, I keep seeing and reading about all of these World Record Skinny-dip attempts, but I just can't keep track of them all!" Well, you are not alone. So, in an effort to help you wade through the morass of pics, vids and news reports, I will see if I can pull together some information for you. Oh, and pics too..

Anyway, from what I can tell, skinny-dip record attempts that have taken place over the past 3-4 years fall into one of two categories. In the first category we have lone, SINGLE attempts that are restricted to one beach only. I don't have a good handle yet on where all these lone, single attempts have been made, but examples would include the various dips down in NZ of which several have taken place recently. The most recent here (and what prompted this thread) is the world record skinny-dip from Gisborne, 12-30-12. See the pic below. Also, Wales holds now an annual dip as part of a cancer fundraiser. They held the previous world record at 413 (At Gisborne the other day, they put 506 into the water).

But what I didn't fully realize until now is that the whole World Record Skinny-dip thing really kicked off in 2009 when the AANR got involved and negotiated with the people at the Guinness book of world records to create a new category of skinny dip record. This has confused me up until now, and I still don't fully understand it. But from what I know at this point, the AANR World Record attempt is for simultaneous skinny dipping at multiple locations. Before 2009, there was no Guinness world record category for this. Now there is. So, in other words, the AANR organized over 100 dips to take place at various clubs and nude beaches around the US, with the idea being to set a record for most people naked in the water at one time regardless of where they were naked. That first year, they put over 12,000 naked people in the water at 3Pm on July 10th during National Nude Recreation Week. Of course, since that was the first time anyone had ever attempted this, it set a World Record.

And so along comes 2010, and once again, the AANR is sponsoring another simultaneous World Record skinny-dip attempt exactly one year after the first one. And once again, over 100 clubs and beaches are participating including Haulover, Wreck, Lagunaa del Sol, etc. Now you can read the results from that year at this link:

And so, you will see that after the final count in 2010, they beat the 2009 record by putting almost 14,000 naked people in the water at one time. But what got me curious from looking at this link is how the numbers added up, because you will note that some locations like Haulover put more people in the water (Over 700) than did any of the folks in NZ or Wales during their single world record attempts. So then, why doesn't Haulover hold the World Record for a single, lone skinny dip? I don't know. Perhaps they couldn't count it as a single attempt as it was part of this AANR simultaneous thing. Or perhaps, maybe they didn't document it properly or follow some other rule or guideline required by the Guinness people. Anyway, during the 2010 AANR simultaneous skinny dip attempt, several locations put more than 400 nudes in the water, while the Guinness record at the time for a single attempt was only 413. OK, you all got this single vs simultaneous business straight?

Anyway, well I don't know about you, but its the pics that matter the most, right!! I mean, whether they show a dip from one of the AANR sponsored ones or from a lone dip like in NZ, they are going to mostly look alike. But anyway, so in the hunt for pics - keep this in mind: The number of single, lone dips is relatively small. On the other hand, literally 100's of dips have taken place as part of AANR's annual, simultaneous world record attempt. This means that pics could surface from any of these AANR dips, and all you need to know in searching is the name of the beach or club + "World Record", "Skinny-dip" etc as search terms. So lets see what we can come up with, and use the list of locations in the link above to help you out.

So, I'll be back in a bit to put up some pics. BUt once again, the world record skinny dip business is divided into two categories: single dips (record is now 506) and simultaneous dips (multiple locations but at the same time). The latter record is at least 14,000 (I assume that in 2011 and 2012 the AANR attempt was made again)

I leave you with a pic showing the Gisborne, NZ world record dip. They expected up to 1000. Someday, some beach somewhere will break that milestone. And we will report it right here in this thread!!

Right now as far as I can tell, New Zealand has a lock in the pic department when it comes to mass skinny-dips. The best pics are coming from there. In addition to their recent world record attempts since December, they have also had some other dips not associated with world record attempts. The pics below are from these dips and were either taken by OCC member Pennywiseguy2 or unearthed by Fango. These are great and likely what provided the inspiration for this thread. We need more pics like these!

So up front I will say that these are the best pics that I currently know of on the subject of this thread. It kind of goes downhill from here until new dips take place. The one in Oriental Bay, NZ is an annual affair now, and we hope P will continue to cover it! After all, these ENF moments are priceless.

But I think what typically happens in most locations now is a guy takes a pic of the entire group while they are in the water, something that is required by the Guinness people, and leaves it at that. Thats the pic that gets posted on the internet, which is necessarily going to be somewhat long range. And then few other pics go up except maybe some running into the water pics. But in NZ, thankfully we also see before and after dip close ups, which is really what got me thirsting for more. So maybe if we keep this thread bumped a bit and give it some member familiarity, that will in turn spur on the hunt for more pics. And one OCC member actually attended the Dec 2 NZ dip. MAybe next time he can take his camera! But so since these dips, especially the AANR ones, can take place anywhere, some OCC member is going to live close by. And by the way, these AANR dips are annual affairs now that take place each July during Nude Recreation Week. They are as dependable as WNBR's, and not only occur on club grounds but on well known beaches like Sandy Hook, Haulover and Wreck. The next one is July 13th, 2013. Mark it on your calendar! I mean, c'mon - lets trump this up and get it on everyone's public nudity events list calendar! How many people think "Skinny-dip" when that time of year rolls around now? Not many, I bet....

OK, now because I am feeling guilty for pilfering pics and not adding any of my own, here are some from Sandy Hook's 2010 AANR skinny-dip. The 2010 one took place on July 10th country-wide (Recall I said that everyone everywhere must be in the water at the same time for it to qualify as a Guinness simultaneous dip record. That means if folks in Haulover are to be in the water at 3PM, folks on the west coast must be in at 12noon Pacific time!! Yes, they are serious about this simultaneous bit! Its simultaneous as God would see it, not as our watches see it! If they were doing this worldwide, some folks in Asia would have to be in at midnight!!)

These pics are from one of Haulover's AANR skinny-dips. They put hundreds in the water there, and likely hold the unofficial world record for number of people naked in the water at the same time and place. (OK, excluding a Tunick shoot)....

The Brits held the record for a while after the 2011 dip in Wales, they had another unsuccessful attempt last year in Northumberland.

I'm sure it was just a matter of time before you mentioned them, but here's the link to the relevant thread!

Up until just recently, the Northumberland, Wales dip held the Guinness record for a single skinny-dip at 413.
That record held for over a year before it fell just a few days ago to the folks down in NZ. Here are some of the pics from the thread linked to by daveduchovny.

I think I said above that the pics from NZ are the best, but these ain't too shabby either. In fact, they're comparable overall, and there are lots of them - I count 63 in my files.

the AANR 2010 list
 

OK, now take a look at this list below which I cut and paste from the link I provided in post no 1. This is a list of all of the participating clubs and beaches in AANR's 2010 simultaneous skinny-dip record attempt. The list is long. That year, they put around 14,000 naked people in the water. The numbers on that list should add up to that figure. OK, so how many pics of these people have you seen on the internet? How many babes? 5? 10? Not many, right? So far, from that year I've put a couple pics up from Haulover and Sandy Hook. Thats it. But the list shows you that over 100 skinny dips took place! And note that photographic evidence of each dip is essential to get Guinness recognition. So.....someone somewhere took pics at each of these dips! They had to - it was required! Where are those pics? :) Anyone care to go on a hunt.....?

in the first column next to each location is the number of people participating in that dip. Now this is all for 2010. Next consider that they've done this in three other years, and you get the idea of how many potential pics are out there!

So, just for example, I just typed "Cypress Cove" and "Skinny-dip" into Google, and out popped the four pics below. Not great, but hey, at least its something. NOw try that for other locations. One problem is how you spell "skinny-dip" in google. "Skinny-dip" with the hyphen gets you the most returns. Then "Skinny dip" without the hyphen, and then "skinnydip", all one word.

found some more information: The recent Kiwi (New Zealand) attempt was held at the Rhythm & Vines Festival on 30th December (Day 2 of the Festival) (in Gisborne). This might prove to be useful information when looking for pics. Anyway, best I have been able to come up with so far is low quality pics in a censored gallery that is to be found here:

Since Wreck Beach in Vancouver, BC is one of the world's best nude beaches, it stands to reason that they would be able to put a lot of naked bodies in the water as part of the AANR simultaneous skinny-dip record attempt.

And indeed in 2010, they did - around 400 to be exact (or not so exact...:)). Anyway, here is a pic and there are a couple more (copyrighted) at this link:

Having this AANR simultaneous skinny-dip thing every year is one way in which all the various clubs and beaches around North America can assert bragging rights when it comes to nudity at their location. You would think that might be the case when Sandy Hook, Haulover and Wreck go head to head in the skinny-dip attempt business. They are suppose to be working together to support the AANR's broader goal, but we know they are secretly competing against one another to see who can put the most naked people in the water!! Right??

So, in 2010 - which nude beach in North America came out on top? The three biggies - Gunnison (Sandy Hook), Haulover and Wreck all had strong participation. The winner? HAulover with over 700 bodies! Then came Wreck with 389, and Gunnison with (only) around 250. But, there is a catch here! Only someone who has been to these beaches like me could have picked this up. OK, here goes - the Wreck beachers had to be in the water at 12PM whereas the others went in at 3PM. This was to take into account the different time zones and make the AANR attempt truly simultaneous. but we all know that nude beaches do not really fill up until after 2PM! So at Wreck at noon, only probably 30% or less of the bathers had arrived on the beach that day! Taking that into consideration, how many people do you think Wreck could have put in the water if they had been able to hold their attempt at 3PM? 1000 or more? Quite possibly! I know Wreck, and if any beach could have done it, they could have. So now, we must put an asterix next to these attempt results. Haulover won at over 700 bodies, but, like Roger Maris found out in 1961 when he broke the home run record, some people (mainly me!) see it differently! Wreck could have bested that 700 mark easily, IMHO. But we will never know for sure as long as the AANR rules stay the way that they are. Personally, I think they should move the attempt time around a bit from year to year to give west coast beaches optimum conditions for getting the highest numbers possible in the water. That would be fair, no? :)


Incidently since we are talking about the beaches here, Hippie Hollow nude beach in Texas, which is a relatively small beach, put around 250 people in the water during their attempt. Considering the size of the beach and the time zone thing (they would have gone in at 1PM or 2PM, not 3PM), that is a really strong showing. Congratulations to the folks there! That brings up another point: How about awarding a prize for dip numbers per beachgoer? Normalize it as they say to nullify the influence that beach size has on participation. Which beach has the most enthusiastic cadre of skinny-dippers?

How did i missed this??? I should have been there if i knew where to go.
The title says in Dutch that it's nude new years skinny dip. So far as i can see on the picture it was held on the North Sea coast, probably in the province of Noord Holland.
I will for sure look for more pics and info about this.
The only new years skinny dips which were in the news were the yearly clothed (bathing suits) skinny dips, co sponsored by Unox, a Dutch brand (soups/potage/hot dogs etc.) of the Unilever company. In Scheveningen they have the biggest one, >1000 people including lots of young woman and girls but unfortunately nothing/not much to see. :o

Dutch maybe is not so hard to translate into English when they have words like "wereldrecord" :) OK, even I can translate that! So thats great, because not only do we have a skinny-dip (naaktwemmen or "naked swimming"?) but apparently a world record attempt as well. But in the translating department, this is as far as I can go. Its going to be up to guys like Stevin6 and simonlintworm to tell us all where this took place and when, and, most importantly, when are they going to do it again!!??

Ok, now things get complicated :). The website you mentioned is a Belgium website (note the extension of .be). The language on the website is Dutch, but the subject is an attempt to break the world record for skinny dipping in Oxfordshire. I don't know when they will try it again

While searching for Dutch skinny dip pics i came across a few pics of the 2012 new years skinny dip held at the Twiske lake just above (10-20km) the city of Amsterdam.

Found another 3 pics of the "blote nieuwjaarsduik" (nude new years skinny dip) held at the well known nudist beach of Zandvoort at the North Sea. Unfortunately they are small.
A few more pics are on the website naaktstrandje.nl and for those who are member of the Dutch naturist federation and registered at the small secluded member section, they can see 172 pics. But notice that also pics of the location, the big party tent, the sea, some children, spectators, organisation etc. are inlcuded in those pics. I guess there were 75 -150 volunteers and only a few interesting woman and more men then woman.

Below is a rather small pic from Papamoa, NZ where they attempted the record on Dec 2..

But seeing those pics from zaanfort got me thinking - a lot of well known nude beaches now have an annual skinny-dip as part of some record attempt (or maybe not). But that is something we could list here so that everyone with a camera who lives nearby could get a heads up on. Also, as next July approaches I will bump this thread with info and locations for the AANR dip. Most of the nude beach dips, in the US at any rate, are AANR related.

And so just because I was curious I googled Blacks Beach and Baker Beach in California to see if they hold any world record attempts. They don't. Why? I don't know, but neither of these beaches have a strong community feel to them which I think is necessary to hold a dip. Also, because they are on the west coast, they have to be in the water by noon for it to be official. Maybe no one is interested in getting up that early :) But in any case, no California beaches are on the 2010 AANR list. And Collins Beach in my neck of the woods isn't either. Hey - maybe I should organize one!

But I see any mass skinny dip as being a really fun thing to do. Think of it kind of like a Tunick shoot. I mean, lying around on the beach is OK, but here you get to rub shoulders with everyone and you get a great feel good vibe from sharing smiles with those cute babes as you work together to achieve this naked goal! So the more pics that make it to the net hopefully will spur more to join and take part, which will result in more pics, etc, etc until these all become major events. When I go to Wreck Beach, I always try to time my visit with the occurrence of some beach event like the bare buns run, Wreck beach day (Photos, sand castle competition, body painting), etc. Your experience is so much better when you have something to do, people to meet, moments to share.....and frequently these are the only days in which some cameras are allowed on the beach, heh, heh!!!

What happened to the UK Midsummer skinny dip for Marie Curie cancer care?.

Apparently it took place on 02 June with 400 people in 4 locations, and there are a couple of pictures on the organisers' website, but (so far as I've noticed) no pictures on the forum this year. Did anyone go? Does anyone know anyone who went? Did no-one who participated post any pictures online?
