To get us started, these two images are from the stage version of the musical Best Foot Forward (1941), in which a lovelorn prep-school student sends an invite to the school prom to a movie star known more for her pin-ups than her acting. As a publicity stunt, her agent accepts and she shows up, scandalizing the school and causing the boy to dump his real date, who gets even by (literally) exposing the actress!! (The movie version of this musical starred Lucille Ball as the actress who, thanks to the Hays Code, only got stripped down to her slip...unfortunately, I was unable to find an image of that scene from the film, doggonnit!!:mad:) |

There's not really a whole lot about the comic strip you can find online, although there is a newspaper archive or two out there that has digitized reprints of the Daily Mirror (the paper that Jane was published in).
There are a few reprint volumes of the strip, most of them concentrating on the WWII years, including the most recent, The Misadventures of Jane, which was published in 2009 and can be found easily on Amazon and Google. Good luck! |

SILENT FILM CLIP OF A WOMAN LOSING HER SKIRT
Found this really oldie, but goodie at a place selling clips. It's a silent comedy where an elegant woman gets her skirt torn off at a party. Action starts at the 17:12 mark on the code.

Jane Wyman EUF
Has anyone seen the 1941 movie " You're in the Army Now " ? In it Jane
lets in two vacuum salesmen ( Jimmy Durante and Phil Silvers ) to demostrate there vacuum. One of them throws dirt on the carpet and the other turns on the vacuum to show how it cleans. But instead of sucking up the dirt it blows air out and for a few tummy seconds Jane's skirt is blown up revealing that she's wearing lace satin knickers and stockings. As I said Yum... |
