Can we please ditch the 'Rapidshare' section...

.....and replace it with Multiupload?

I find RS hopeless now, and gave up paying them for a poor service. Multiupload (mentioned and used a lot by some mods here) has an RS option and NO BLOODY CAPTCHA (at least at present). IMHO, it's time to move on from Rapidshare and encourage users to use Multiupload in future by renaming the forum section.

eviltwin 06-18-2011 01:00 PM

Or maybe even a section for download-services in general, and one for various links and such (i.e. the Free sites)? The mods could specify the allowed and banned filehosting-services, and encourage multiupload.

As it is now, the Rapidshare-section is dwindling because so many have stopped using rapidshare, while there is a plethora of other services to choose from. It seems pointless to keep rapidshare separate now.

wildfire54 06-18-2011 03:01 PM

I agree.Dump it.

inquisitive 06-18-2011 09:47 PM

Fileserve and Filesonic are decent too. I noticed that on Fileserve, there isn't a time limit to wait after a download if i wanted to download some more files.

evilextreme 06-19-2011 11:11 AM

I totally agree, Rapidshare is of little use anymore on this forum and multiple hosts option needs to be adopted. I've already switched to Fileserve awhile back which I find brilliant and is great for free users also. It will also let uploaders mirror files across multiple hosts, meaning when one hosts says your limit is up, you can grab the next download from a different host.

admin 06-21-2011 12:57 PM

Yes. We are considering renaming the Rapidshare forum to accept other host(s).

We have always been careful to avoid allowing hosts where uploaders get paid for soliciting downloads because that leads to a level of SPAM.

speedy28 06-21-2011 03:17 PM

5 minute waits for rapidshare sucks. megaupload works fine for free users. not sure about any kickbacks for uplaoders.

Pedro the Fisherman 06-24-2011 04:37 AM

I think the lack of new stuff appearing in what was one of my regular sections speaks volumes for the demise of Rapidshare as the leading file host on the net. I hate the 5 minute (+) wait and the fact there seems to be a delay after that, which if you click again (thinking it is not working) makes you wait another 5 minutes:confused:

No. This section is for OCC support and site feedback related questions only.

sadly this is very true.

The Ghost of RS

I agree that the RS section needs to be changed, regardless of the fact that there are spam problems with some of the pay-for-upload/download hosts. RS is dead, Rapidfind.org which was hands down the largest supporter of RS is now Bolt and supports different hosts which required an internal forum civil war in regards to the state of, and future of RS, and RS lost horribly. Due to a combination of getting to large (therefore being targeted by all the legal big guns from the media corps) and service restructuring from top to bottom RS lost all their uploaders and the paying downloaders that came with them to such a degree that I would say that 95% of all I download is no longer uploaded to RS in the first place. The simple fact is no one really uses RS at all anymore so it is, in effect, dead; I don't even visit the RS section here anymore and I was one of the strongest supporters of it.

My vote goes to either:
Oron
Fileserve
or
Hotfile

All three of which are not allowed here, along with Megaupload. My personal recommendation is Multiupload.

Speak for yourself. I use RS a lot for downloading and personally have had no problems. By all means use other hosts but keep RS aswell.

warm 07-07-2011 02:42 AM

RS was good in that we only had to pay for one service. Oron is OK but still slow I don't mind which as long as it is not TOO expensive, fast and many use it

Well, since only RS is allowed in the RS forum, that much was assumed. I like multiupload as an option, I just don't see how using multi is any different than allowing Mega, Fileserve, or Hotfile considering multi supports those hosts. Correct me if I am wrong, but multi is simply the gate keeper for 3rd party servers like Mega and Hotfile, so why would Multi be allowed but not the 3rd party file hosts that Multi allows?

Either way, I like OCC not trolled by monkey spammers so if that would open the flood gates then I say keep them closed and upload to HC/SC board.

You can make money by uploading directly to Megaupload/Fileserve/Hotfile by using their affiliate programs, which is against the rules:

Multiupload has no such program.

Pedro the Fisherman 07-09-2011 04:04 AM

As it stands, we still can only use rapidshare and hardly anyone (including me) is bothering to post there nowadays:(

Lucian0 07-09-2011 05:16 AM

I used rapidshare for 2 or 3 years and it was great, I had many Premium accounts by using the free points I made after I uploaded stuff on different sites but now I prefer to skip rs boards, I tried to use it again yesterday and to my surprise I downloaded like 2gb from someones account in free mode and it was without wait and with 1mb+ (maybe it was Happy Hour or something like that) Now it's not a great site but def not a bad one but I do agree we need more file sharing options...

Here's a few suggestions:

mediafire: not the best but acceptable speed in free mode and if I remember right there's no waiting limit
megaupload: best for free users
hotfile: there's a 15min wait limit between downloads but has a good d/l speed

Site's i hate:

Depositfiles; uploaded(to), uploading(com)...

Good thing for us we have very diligent mods looking out for us and keeping this site spam free, and making our visits here enjoyable. Keep up the good good work. OCC rocks:D

I use multiupload for my uploads, i think its better then rapidshare or any other site. I used Megaupload a lot too.

jdub 07-21-2011 03:57 PM

I am definitely in favor of Megaupload being allowed here... Easy to upload and download from for free users... Why not?

Links to file sharing sites where individuals are posting for profit are not allowed. If sites like Megaupload were allowed you would see a high volume of spam. We see it now as it is with people trying to bypass the ban set on Megaupload and other sites, it would be even worse if the sites were not banned.

Thanks guys for including 'Multiupload' on the forum!:D:D:D:D:D

I don't get it?
For whatever reason, i have no captchas or download limits. And i have not accidentally bought their paid account. Downloads for me are instantaneous on RS. I am happy but now i am perplexed :rolleyes:

Probably just happy hour (no download wait time for free users) RS used to run them all the time, if not you are one lucky dude because people have been trying to get around the wait time forever, even going as far as changing changing IP addresses to get around it w/ no luck. :D

Pseudo66 08-07-2011 09:48 AM

I agree that the RS section should just be a Fileshare Host section, but I am stuck with RS now as I have lots of stuff hosted on it.
What I really don't like about RS now is that once you pay for it, you no longer get the Free Download option when the Rapids expire. You have to renew your payment to download!
This has all started in the past year or so since they changed their terms.
I think it is because they have to keep up the facade that RS is mainly to be used for respectable purposes, but they know it is mostly used for hosting pirate stuff and porn but they still have to keep up the pretence.
I think Megaupload is a really good hoster.
If you change the section, you should make sure that some of the other filehosts that can track users or will only work in certain countries if you pay (e.g. Oron!) are not allowed.

We already don't allow Oron.

As for Rapidshare, as far as I can tell, for the past few weeks, free users (myself included) have had instantaneous downloads at normal speeds. No waiting. It doesn't appear to be a "happy hour" thing, which in the past have only lasted a day or less. This could change at any time, of course, but seeing as Megaupload still has a 45 second wait, Rapidshare is currently better than Megaupload, IMO (until they switch back to 5 minute waits ).

...

Wow, I did not know that about RS. The last time I went in it had like a 5min wait for free downloads, unreal that they have gone in so many directions in the last year. Liking the new Multi/RS section, specially since RS is on permanent happy hour

I'd love to know where there is a high volume of spam for Megaupload being posted because it's becoming as rare as hen's teeth to find a megaupload link on any of the forums I know .

Your statement probably was true a few years back but posters have switched to Filesonic as the posting for profit site now and forums are being flooded with that .

It still falls under the "posting for profit" category, so you'll see some people posting for that reason and that reason alone. I would say until that changes you won't see it on here anytime soon.
