Amazing pics, thanks. Why is the beach empty? I'm planning to go to lighthouse beach for my very first time this summer, waiting for a hot suuny weekend to go so that its crowded. Probably going to take some pics, will post them if i do.

It's Fire Island Lighthouse Beach. It's located at the mid southern coast of LI. According to site online, you park at Robert Moses Field 5 and walk eastward (not a long walk) till you hit the nude beach. Robert Moses is after Jones beach, as in east of jones beach, if you've ever been there. check this site:

Very rare to see no crowd..maybe it was early in the year.

Actually it was Tuesday around Lunch time. The weekends is much more filled.

And then if you pull into field 5 Parking lot and drive to the left of the lot away from the changing rooms at the end of the lot there is a pathway to the beach. When you hit the beach go to the left and about 600ft down you will see a "nuder sunbathers sign beyond this point" then if you completely walk through it there's a small stretch that goes back to clothed then walk through that and its nude again. If your a voyeur its HEAVEN!! and if your their later on in the day, things seem to get a little more um relaxed. I could spend weeks there!!:D

Are you talking about the second one here? Which one is Voyeur heaven the further one?

Is it possible to walk on the sand from field 5 to lighthouse beach instead of using the pathway? Just asking because sometimes the areas in between beaches have fences that prevent you from going from one beach to the next on sand. Thanks for the info jgreg and please post more pics if u got.

Lighthouse Beach is accessible from the ocean side as well as the boardwalk-Burma Road-1st boardwalk on the right route from Robert Moses State Park Field 5.

The area directly in front of the lighthouse as well as the approximately 100 yards of beach on either side of the lighthouse is clothed. The first bunch of nudes west of the lighthouse is known as the more pervy crowd, while the second group located east of the lighthouse are the "real" nudists who are truly into the healthy lifestyle of being "clothed with the sun." ;) Ha!

Stay out of the dunes, be discreet and watch for rangers in the 4WD...they'll do anything to stay friends with the nude chicks who flag them down for a nude conversations. There's alot of east-west foot traffic near the water....mostly clothed people from Robert Moses Field 5 "taking walks" - in other words, gawkers. Notice how many groups of teenage girls take the trip down to giggle and cock-watch.

Wow, did you ever see those group of teenage girls decide to join in with the nudes, do they ever strip down while they are at lighthouse beach cock-watching?

Its a public beach and a national park, you can photograph anything you like. Its not illegal, nor is there anything wrong with it. Just so people are comfortable I choose to hide the camera. If that makes me a bad guy sorry, I like to enjoy nature beaches and naturists.

Right. Just be careful of the rangers, like I said, as they'd do anything to protect the relationships they renew with the nude women....

I've taken pics from the stairs at the top of the dunes. As long as you're not blatant about staring at the nudies, you're fine.

Remember, the beach's nude use is throught the courtesy of the NPS. Any complaints about issues or sexual activity would get attention from the NPS....that's why even the prude nudes turn a blind eye to the pervs.

Whats the main reason the young girls go cock watch in groups? Are they curious since they're teenagers and want to see a cock for their first time? Are they horny? They do it because (1) they want to see naked men and (2) they know that most of the naked men either enjoy being seen naked or simply don't care. Most of them are too timid to go it alone, but feel safe in a group. I've also observed that many men, when they see the girls coming, will actually position themselves so as to ensure being seen. OK with me, the only problem I have is when the girls then refer to the men as "pervy."

I've also seen middle aged women bring their 11-12-13 year old daughters to nude beaches for the express purpose of giving them the opportunity (and an ample one at that) to see naked men. I know this because I asked one such woman one day at Baker Beach. She had her daughter and two of the daughter's friends in tow, and said she thought it a good idea for them to see what males look like before they start going out with boys. She also said, "It really doesn't seem as though any of you mind."

To answer your question, no they were all in swimsuits or coverups. The mom I remember had on a one-piecer that was, ahem, no match whatsoever for her womanly bottom, if you get my drift. They were camped out at the clothing-mandatory section at the south end of the beach, when mom decided the girls needed a make-shift anatomy lesson. My wife and I were wading into the chilly Pacific when they happened by. In truth, the mom was speaking more to my wife than to me, except for her comment that us guys "didn't seem to mind."

I have been to RM 4 times this year so far and had a good time each time, plenty of women to see. And one way or another there is usually someone stroking off in close proximity.

A decades-long tradition of nude sunbathing on Fire Island beaches is coming to an end this summer: Fire Island National Seashore authorities have announced plans to enforce long-standing laws banning the practice.

The surging popularity of Lighthouse Beach in particular has led to increased complaints and observations of assault, sex, masturbation and prostitution, said Fire Island chief ranger Lena Koschmann. On some summer days, as many as 4,000 people descend on the narrow strip of land east of Robert Moses State Park Field 5, in the shadow of famed Fire Island Lighthouse.

"We've been struggling to make it work because Fire Island has a history of that type of use and people have been coming there for years," Koschmann said. "The more we talked about it and researched it, the more we realized that that use wasn't compatible with an area like Lighthouse Beach."

The beach's proximity to the lighthouse generated complaints from tourists about public nudity, which now would be seen more frequently because the beach's dunes, decimated by superstorm Sandy, no longer obscure sightlines, she said.

Since the beach has no lifeguards, bathrooms or trash cans, Koschmann said thousands of nude sunbathers pose a public health risk in an area that wasn't meant to be heavily used.

"There has been a huge change in the demographic and the types of activities happening there in the last 10 or 15 years," she said. "Now when you go out there it's a party atmosphere. There's DJs and music, and people partying and drinking."

Koschmann also said some social media sites carry invitations to meet for public sex on the beach.

The fact that public nudity is illegal in New York was another compelling reason to change the policy, since FINS maintains joint jurisdiction with the state, she said. The ban also will be enforced at four other Fire Island beaches where nude sunbathing is known to take place -- including the tract of land in front of Sailors Haven, from Point O' Woods to Cherry Grove.

Koschmann recommended the change in policy to National Seashore Superintendent Christopher Soller, who approved and announced it in an annual release outlining use restrictions at the national park. Rangers will begin by "educating" nude bathers, Koschmann said, and progress to giving tickets. But that is difficult, she said, since many nude sunbathers do not carry identification.

Toplessness, she said, "is tricky. The law that's on the books still says a woman has to have her breasts covered. That being said, there is some case law that has led to a different type of enforcement in that area. . . . We're not going to be hammering on toplessness."

Local and national nudist recreation groups decried the change in policy, which they say eliminates their only option for public nude bathing on Long Island.

"I'm pretty disappointed," said Felicity Jones, co-founder of Young Naturists and Nudists America, a New York City-based group. "It was the best beach we had for New Yorkers, and it's not easy to be a nudist in New York."

Jones, who asked to be identified only by her pen name, said her group now would probably spend most of the summer at New Jersey's Gunnison Beach.

Long Island Travasuns, a nudist-naturist group started in 1978, is hoping it can meet FINS halfway.

The group's president, who asked to be identified only as Dan, said he is "deeply saddened and extremely disappointed" by the change, but his members "hope to reach an understanding that is acceptable to everyone involved."

Koschmann said the decision is final and will be enforced. Violators could face 6 months in jail and up to $5,000 in fines.

"One of the key decision-makers for us is we've really tried. A lot of people say you should do a better job of enforcing laws down there," she said. "We only have six field rangers on staff, and they're responsible for 32 miles of beach. And they're spending between 75 and 100 percent of a summer day on that one stretch of beach."

I heard on the news this morning, that starting this summer it will no longer be a nude beach, its a combination of to many complaints of sex and prostitution, as well as damage to the dunes from Sandy since they no longer block the view of the beach from the path to the lighthouse.
