how come from the Yelp reviews online about this beach, everyone is saying it is basically much much older men and very few women at all...

one of the most beautiful beaches ... and great cliffs ...
heard that this beach is less frequented by women now than in the 80s and 90s ... don't know if that is true ... these pics do look they are not very recent, but i am no expert so cannot say ...

great place! went there in the 70's but my pics got damaged in a flood. great memories of taking the steep, sandy trail down with a full cooler. Pubic hair was in....to go around with "party favors"! hope this thread takes off!:D

I'm surprised this isn't a more active thread. Blacks is the only nude beach in all of Southern California (now that San O is questionable) and it's crowded every day of the summer.

I lived in San Diego for 9 years in the 90's and loved the time I spent at Blacks. I now only make the drive down there a few times each summer. Some of my favorite memories are from Blacks!

I wish I had something to contribute to this thread, but sadly, digital cameras were not commonplace in the 90's and I never would have had the guts to try and take photos down there anyway. So I humbly request anyone with Blacks Beach photos to share them here, please.

It's not very active because Blacks is nearly dead as a nude beach. I used to go in the mid and late 70's and early 80's and there could be up to 40,000 to 50,000 people on the beach in those days. It was amazing. Now - even on a nice day, when the parking lot is full, I doubt there are more than 100-200 ppl on the beach; most of them gay men. Amazing that in California - the capital of Hedonism there are no popular nude beaches with big crowds. Oh well, I did enjoy it in the old days.

Tuesday Afternoon at Black's
 

Had an opportunity to visit Black's today. There was some really good scenery there, however I was much too cowardly to have my camera out on the beach. But luckily I have a decent zoom and was able to take some stills and video from the trail and cliffs. This is my first post, enjoy!

I live in Carlsbad, about 20 miles from Blacks...I get down there several times a season...it is located across the street from UCSD and one can often catch coeds from the U there...I was there a week ago the beach had a good crowd and definitely not dead as reported above...just saying...Elaine

That covers it pretty well.

Slow times are a few scattered guys and the occasional woman, usually not of the body types one may hope for. At the busiest times mostly gay males and older flabby couples. Most everyone is suspicious of single males (like they'd go around sneaking pictures or something. Like THAT might happen).

For the most part it's beach regulars (couples mentioned above) and everyone else.

It used to be a fun place. San Onofre was a great beach until the prudes stepped in.

The "capital of Hedonism" today has no political power to back it up. The Hedonism thing went with free love and the Hollywood subculture of the 60's and 70's. The media made a big deal of it at the time and spread the idea around the country. Maybe it was a way to attract newcomers and make some money, I don't know. But today, it seems hedonism there survives only if it can be made to be commercially profitable (porn industry). Otherwise, California's bureaucrats and politicians are among the most dedicated and overzealous in the world, and that has often spelled trouble for public nudity today.

I'd go back to Black's if the huge crowds ever returned. There seems to be some disagreement as to whether it is a "good" beach or a "bad" beach today. More reports would be good.

The demise of nude beaches down there somehow I link with New York City's inability to host a decent WNBR. in both cases, you have cities controlled by the mega-wealthy, and along with that comes a tendency for those making decisions to see disorderly conduct everywhere they look. Its a type of paranoia, I guess.

But I'd like California to be the capital of Hedonism. The Riviera and Florida also attract the mega wealthy, but those regions are much more tolerant of nude beaches. With Florida, it may be european tourist dollars they are after. Southern California is a different culture though and more intent on preserving family values.

Went back to the beach again yesterday. This time I thought I was more prepared as I had my GoPro discretely mounted in a back pack. As soon as I arrived to the parking lot, I noticed there were two girls that had just started down the trail. I of course followed down the steps and trail behind them. The ventured off to the north, found a spot, and promptly disrobed. My first pass with the GoPro... FAIL! It was set to burst mode. Pass two was a success, but the girls had turned of to there stomachs. The subsequent pass failed also as I must not have hit the record button correctly... and then was confronted by a male friend of theirs for walking by too often. Yikes!! Disappointed, I headed back up to the parking lot. There is this one scaffold-type viewing stand on the cliff there. I assume it is for watching the hang gliders that launch above the beach. But it gave me just enough overlook to catch the pair. While my zoom is ok, the photos still aren't too sharp.

Up until a couple yrs ago, I lived right at Torrey Pines State Beach, which is the beach just north of Blacks. I found this assessment to be correct. About 70% guys around 30 or older.. and women for the most part were about the same age. UCSD is the college right there, so a few coed, but a small minority. I was surprised at the number of pics. Back in 2012, there was the "Blacks Beach Bares" club that was like a watch dog group on the beach to make certain the ladies didnt get harassed. One of their biggies was the discouragement of cameras. Times change I guess lol

I think I saw DryGuy today, but he wouldn't wave back at me. :rolleyes:

The beach was a bit more breezy than last time, but there were quite a few more people out. And quite a few girls.
I got a new conversion lens, but I don't think it helped. My camera at full zoom was waaaaaay to shaky (wind didn't help). But following are a few shots that are decent. I doubt I'm going to bother trying to get shots again as the quality just isn't that great, and the GoPro has too wide of an angle. My hats off to those of you with the great camera and framing skills.

I'll start with this couple. They were on the beach quite a long time and were making out in front of everyone for most of it.

These are GREAT. Genuine voyeur photography is really difficult. So many of the "voyeur" beach shots that get endlessly recycled on this and other sites are posed with models.

Went back to the beach two afternoons last week. It was fairly overcast for most of it, which is much better for photo quality. These first photos are of a couple that were hanging out just north of the overlook.
