It's like; na na na na-na; I posted them first.

Ownership is not the issue. The issue is the time and effort put into finding that original material. There is a certain amount of skill and knowledge that goes into doing that, somewhat like the effort put into the creation of an original image. If someone then comes a long and just copies that image, what you have then is just a lot of copies, but very little increase in VALUE. OCC membership is very diverse, and it should be a place where newbies can come and appreciate what you post, but also a place for us oldtimers who may not have a lot of time on their hands to go directly to the original material without having to wade through reposts. The trick is in how you accomodate both, and I think the solution is to respect everyone and their desires, and pick your threads accordingly.

I really don't care if the pics are repost; if I like them I post them.

That gets back to the respect thing and is sort of the crux of the issue. Thats because simply not caring about reposts given the sheer volume of pics that you post borders on irresponsible when you consider server space, others time and interests, etc. It is particularly an issue with threads on narrow topics where you frequently recycle pics posted just days earlier. If you like them - great. If YOU want to see them again, great. But if you want OTHERS to see them again, think twice, because why would I want to see copies of something posted two days ago that I can easily duplicate or view at any time on my hard drive? I don't download or keep lots of copies of pics. I generally only have one of each, no matter how much I may like it. And when I go to imagefap and view galleries with a lot of duplicated images, i feel the same way as when I browse threads here with the same problem. I feel a little cheated, like when you open a christmas present and its all packing material or something.

You know, Osreb, you must have seen gazillions of pics by now, and I drool thinking about stuff you may have come across in your travels that I will never see. So it is just perplexing to me that you don't seem to retain much of it in your memory, or know how to separate the real nuggets from the "has beens" (used to be's, etc :)) Or, if perhaps you just don't care, which seems just as likely, let me just reiterate one more time - others here do!

thanks - KLondike

Reposts aren't that annoying, you can just scroll down past them. Just like you can scroll down past posts complaining about reposts. Or posts complaining about complaints about reposts.

But I think Osreb deserves commendation for his attitude here, there are too many posters who throw their toys out of the pram at the slightest hint of criticism and threaten to stop posting forever. Osreb deals with his critics head on, explains why he disagrees with it, then carries on posting regardless.

I salute you Osreb. Bravo! Even if it's true that only 15% of your material is original (which I doubt), that 15% along with your devotion to the cause that is OCC makes you one of this forum's more valuable contributors.

Some may call this sticking to your guns. Others may call it pig headedness and unwillingness to compromise.

Take your pick...

How do you compromise?

The only way I can see to prevent repost is to look at every post every day and keep some sort of log.

I perfer to spend the time searching the web for pics to post.

And I do not think the purpose of OCC is for only original material.

I's is a pic posting forum.

In the words of Rodney King: "why can't we just get along".

actually, Osreb, when you created your anything goes nudist thread and said you would post pics there instead of in other threads if you thought they might be reposts, that was a compromise and a pretty good one.

As for getting along, I think we all get along here better than in most forums. I have seen forums where the repost police can get really ugly.

OCC is not ONLY for original material, but if you think about it, what exactly is the value of reposted material other than it is more accessable to newcomers when posted in current threads. But a duplicate really has no other intrinsic value if it occurs in the same physical location as its twin. I suppose to a newbie, a really great pic from the past is a lot more likeable than a lot of the new stuff i post, since to him it is ALL new. And if that keeps him coming back for more, there is going to be value in that. But, keep in mind that quality as well as quantity counts, in reposts and new pics alike. Also, reposts that were only posted for the first time days ago don't share this advantage that I mentioned. Recently, I dredged up my nus mais justes pics from a few years back because I knew they were REALLY old and buried deep inside the archives. But reposting something posted just the other day 3 pages back in a current thread is not creating a huge advantage to someone accessibility-wise. Either pic is about equally accessible.

I apologize to others for taking up time and space here for this, and the other day I thought a related rant should have been carried out by pm. So if I have more to say to Osreb, I will pm him. Osreb, your thanks total tell me you are valuable to OCC, and my only issue really has to do with in which threads you choose to post, as some are more geared towards original pics than others. Threads on narrow topics can peter out quickly, and although reposts can keep it bumped, too many will cause people to lose interest altogether. I'd rather let the thread fall back in the pack a little until more original pics surface. In part thats because it is disappointing (and time consuming) to see a favorite old thread bumped, open it up, and then find out the latest post only contains pics that have been heavily reposted elsewhere.

thanks,

Klondike

question

Any of you champion researchers (Osreb, Zeban, and others) ever come across a skinny dipping picture from Bryn Mawr women's college in Pennsylvania? They have a tradition of the seniors going skinny dipping in some fountain on campus before graduation. i'm found confirmation in writing of teh tradition, but haven't uncovered any photographs. Maybe you can do better - you are incredible at coming up with new pictures all the time!
