Afternoon in Therme
 

I spent an afternoon in a larger therme. The nude area, accessible from age 16, had one steam bath, one sanarium and about 10-15 Sauna cabins with aufguss sessions every 15-25 minutes, great thing was the nude indoor swimmingpool with a bar you could swim to.... For cooling after sauna there were ice cold waterfall showers, ice cold plunge pools and some kneip basins. And two ares with mixed sex showers. On a sunday afternoon the place was packed with couples, girlfriends, some boy groups and lone man and femals.

Interesting difference I noticed this trip
 

For context, I've been going to T.E in Munich for 10+ years on average 4-5 times a year as I pass through on business travel, and I also started going to V in Berlin about 3 years ago, also 3-4 times per year. I'm a big fan of both and try and craft my travel around making time for a stop.

Last week, I had a down day in Berlin and was able to fit in a visit to V as well as Liq., which was new for me.

In all the trips I've made to any of the German spas, it has easily been 90%+ of the women were completely shaved bare. On this trip though, it was the complete opposite - 90%+ had some amount of bush, anywhere from a patch/landing strip to full on natural.

I had gone to Liq first, so I assumed maybe it was unique to there as it was my first visit, but when I was at V later in the day, it was the same.

Personally, its a preference vs totally bald, but more so it was a fascinating difference as was so starkly the opposite.

I'm looking forward to another trip soon because, any data set needs to be confirmed and correlated of course! I'm curious what other's observations have been recently as well as theories.

The shaven look is more prevalent in the spring, summer and autumn. During winter some ladies let it grow out as being seen naked is not necessarily on the schedule.

The other factor is that with backpackers and travellers it is not always easy to shave fully when you are staying in hostels etc. The showers can be on a timer or shared, so you don't have time to shave beyond the legs.

Hence the ratio to shaved/unshaved differs as per the season.

Beside the pool there were two doors, a sunroom with 4 loungers, a sauna with two open showers at one end and a steam room at the other.

I visited 3 or 4 times during my stay. I was surprised to see most visitors, male and female wearing bathing suits in the sauna. A 30ish couple came in with only towels but she kept covered. Some others were in towels and showered off visible in the showers if you passed at the right time. Of course it was nice to be able to undress in front of these women and enter the sauna naked, shower naked and even lay on the sunbeds partially exposed with only a towel.

The sign said textile free, but it seemed even that it was mostly German it was about 80% textile…

Totally agree on the seasonality, but I've never seen it swing from 10%->90% and these definitely were not backpackers, it was the traditional mainly Berlin based crowd.

Anyone had a similar experience? On a ski holiday the hotel had a small spa with just sauna, steam room, shower and some beds. First visit, a couple and lone female were naked. Second visit had the place to ourselves apart from a nude bloke for some of it. Third visit, empty again and just me enjoying the steam room when a group of fellow brits came in clothed. Didn't want to just walk out so had to sit there for a few minutes then walk right past them. Was definitely being checked out :-) and kept seeing them through the week.

In small spas in German hotels they will usually let people wear what they want unless somebody complains. In bigger spas the rukes are enforced.

I've been curious. For the countries with mixed nude sauna culture, do local/small celebrities (like let's say a local radio host or something like that) go to public sauna at all? Or is the nudity becoming taboo the moment they are public figure?

As nobody knows what a local radio host looks like, they will.
Minor television celebrities might go as Well, major celebrities only if they're comfortable with nudity.

Yes, throughout the years I have seen many male and female celebrities nude, but I never brag about it.

Everyone should be discreet.
