Here are some pix of Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, by Kurt Weill, the same guy who wrote Three Penny Opera. They are from two different productions, Ghent and Salzburg. Isn't high art wonderful?

Kurt Weill just wrote the music. The Libretto was done by Bertolt Brecht. So Brecht is responsible for all the nakedness. Just giving credit, where it's due ;)

I knew Brecht did the libretto for Three Penny Opera. I didn't know he did Mahagonny also.

Now, here's Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Do we credit her nudity to Mozart or to Da Ponte? :)

I beleive Nicole Kidman, Tracy Shaw and Amanda Donohoe has done this, too.

While I'm on the topic of Mozart, here are some pix of the character Constanze, from a production of Mozart's Abduction form the Seraglio. Idunno who is singing the part, but she certainly is showing a lot of artistic feeling, don't you think?

Regarding our discussion, in an earlier symposium, of who should get credit for the nudity, the librettist for Seraglio was Gottleib Stephanie:)

My favourite nudity in performance is from the audience, who didn't come to get naked, but get caught up in it (it's a form of ENF I guess, but about overcoming the E). I'm thinking of things like Tasha Diamant's Human Body Project or Frank Moore's later pieces in which students would disrobe and writhe on his naked body. Watching their eyes as they make the decision to "what the fuck, I'll just do it" is breathtaking. Anyone know of other similar examples?
