In most cases I did my own processing. Many happy hours in the dark room

Seeing a labia back then must have been pretty rare event...considering it was all naturally covered up with hair. I wonder how nudists then reacted to trimmed/shaven women.

In the fifties, in southern California a shaven labia was a sign the lady was a figure model away from the nudist camps.

That's why natural blondes (and redheads) were such a big deal back in the day. The lighter color of the pubic hair meant you could obviously see more of the woman's anatomy; a natural blonde walking around the edge of the pool attracted everybody's attention.

Nowadays, nobody cares if the "carpet doesn't match the d****s," as so many women shave it all off. But I remember a time when women could be downright catty about "bottle blondes."

Curious about the times
 

One aspect seeing these pictures of nudism from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s puzzles me. One wonders how these women reconciled their weekend lifestyle with the mores and values of those times. Strict conformity and conservative behavior was expected. And yet these “June Cleavers” were shedding their pearls along with everything else and gladly showing off what God and their mothers had given them.

Perhaps they were spending time at the nudist “colonies” of the day with friends and neighbors that they serve on PTA with. Some might be sitting in church having a clear vision of what Mrs Smith looks like under that fine skirt and crinoline. Mrs Jones knowing that Elder Jones has in his trousers. And they live a secret life on weekends and long summer vacations.

A myriad of speculation of the divergence this hobby and the times they lived in.

Back when the strippers kept their pubes we would often have gentleman's bets as to whether the carpet matched the hair.

Complete secrecy. Whereas nudists nowadays might be more or less open about their nudist activities, people back then took a "cloak and dagger" approach to social nudity. At least that's what I've gathered from old articles I've read. Nudist resorts were hard to find, membership was secretive and visitors/members didn't share anything about their "outside lives." What happened at the nudist resort stayed at the nudist resort.

Whereas this may seem restrictive, it seems to me that came with some perks. "Clothing-optional" was practically non-existent; which makes sense considering it was the only opportunity for these women to "cut loose" from an otherwise oppressive society. You see it a lot in these "vintage pictures", where women just seem to have a blast being socially naked; which you don't see that much nowadays.

My wife and I are nudists. Back in the 80's, a shaved vulva was not too common, but not rare. Whenever a woman showed up shaved, the comments were more along the lines of "very nice". A few were of the more curious type who wanted to see if every hair was gone. The replies were mainly "yes". It was no big thing.

In t6he seventies and eighties when my wife and I frequently went to naturist sites in France the shaved vulva was, indeed, rare and when I persuaded my wife to remove her pubic hair she was very much the exception and she was the subject of much scrutiny. Some followed suite but most preferred to let the lawn grow.
Bye the way she used depleting creams and did not shave. This not only made a lovely smooth finish but also grew back as soft hair rather than stubble.

In the '70's and early '80's......
 

A shaven genital area on a lady probably meant she was coloring her hair and she did not want the "carpet and d****s" to not match.
