Well, at least you tried. 'A' for effort! I won't be around for the Spring '07 ride, unfortunetly. I'll try to enlist a friend to capture it for me. Hopefully he'll be able to man the camera with more success than your photographer.

More people should step up and contribute! I know there must be some of you lurking around with cash crops of original pics on your harddrives...

Kazesim, I have toyed with the idea of starting a website/blog devoted solely to bike and run pics. Know of any such sites already? interested?

I don't know of any existing sites like that. Coccozella comes to mind, but there's too much boring beach and festival stuff to weed through. It would be nice to see a site solely devoted to campus runs.

My main concern would be overexposure. These type of events have a history of dying out if they become too known to the public. And girls become more reluctant to participate if they are aware of Internet exposure.

Still, it could be a nice project to consider down the road.

You're right about overexposure. When the crowds start lining up like they did at Naked Mile, forcing runners go single file, then i start to worry about the future of that ride. Women aren't going to want to go down that gauntlet. One thing they do over at Cocco's with some events is to not include the exact name/location in the gallery title. that is something for me to consider. You know, on the one hand, I would like to provide info about upcoming rides, directions, etc (like I did today with my Fremont set but that is a pro event that has a huge spectator presence so its not a problem). But on the otherhand, providing too much info may ultimately harm you - especially if your site becomes famous.

But luckily - I have no desire to be famous. :) So any site i put up would be low key. Just a place to get info, post and download pics. I think it should reflect the spirit of the event - informal, sort of grass roots, and just plain fun. Overexposed/professionalized public nudity (Havasu, etc) leads to a predictable product anyway, even if it doesn't effect babe turnout (which is often coerced).

The Naked Mile website made a lot of mistakes including being very open and brazen about what they were doing. And putting their entire focus on a single event really shined a spotlight on the runners and made them uncomfortable. That, coupled with the fact there was not much PN on the internet compared to today probably killed that event. Today, though - I think thing are different. It may take more overexposure to kill an event now. But also, I am of the belief that as soon as one ride dies, another, less publicized one will come along to take its place. Kids won't stop running or biking nude. The NQR this year had a date change, from Sat to Mon, and i wondered if this was to keep spectators off balance. But they didn't cancel altogether.

Anyway, thanks for the input - we'll see what happens :)
