Umm... No... It examines the composition (shapes, colors, angles) and compares it to other that it's already scanned into their database. Which is why it'll find a picture of all sizes from thumbnail to poster sized. The name of the picture doesn't matter one bit.

who works with and develops software for search engines, an image search 1st finds the name and then compares the image to find the right one.

search sites/engines don't store data. they use crawler, spiders, and bots to find an image. It would be next to impossible to store every pic that is on the web in one area.
