The guy on the left, Andrew Martinez, was famous in the nineties for being Berkeley's "Naked Guy." He'd been a star athlete and student in high school, and he walked around the Cal campus nude, to protest puritanical values and the social status connoted by designer clothing. Years later, though, he began to show signs of schizophrenia, was arrested a few times, and committed suicide in his jail cell in 2006.
He said he'd be sad if he only wound up being remembered as "The Naked Guy." But it was a huge story at the time. |
