I believe its from unc 2014, but who knows how accurate info that old is

these are great,
wonder if this will be as popular in the age of 4K smartphone video capabilities.

filming spring runs

I’m new to this but I’m in my early to mid 20s so feel like it would be easy to record and blend in . Anyone else planning on doing Unc or Burlington . Seem like best options to me . Gonna be a lot of effort flying in and all that but seems worth it after seeing some footage . If anyone has 1 or 2 good spots to film that would be helpful , don’t want to be in the same spot as anyone else from the forum who’s planning on being there as well is why I ask

Chapel Hill and Cambridge are both May 1. Berkeley is May 2. Burlington is May 3.

At Chapel Hill - the ground floor of the library is the best spot. Get there by 11:15 if you want an ideal spot.

At Burlington - anywhere around the loop will do - though you will get yelled at for taking pics/vids.

At Cambridge - by the statue is the best spot - and you will also be yelled at for taking pics/vids.

Yelled at by other students or security guards ? Also there’s prob gonna be 100s of people filming with their phones as well so I’m guessing they will probably go away to another person to yell at after 20 seconds or so . Or do they try to start stuff with people standing in ideal positions that they know are gonna have good footage . Im surprised they care since most runs don’t even end up on the internet and it seems like a decent amount of people wear masks now

You are a legend! Yes, it was the 2014 run. Here is the original vid I was referring to and some of my favorite screencaps of both.

Yelled at by students - they may try to knock your phone from your hand. It's not illegal to film, so security won't care if you do. Chapel Hill will have lots of people on iPhones, and Cambridge will have some by the statue, but Burlington will not have too many people filming.

Any idea which video these caps are from? Thanks.

Some tips to keep in mind if you go ahead with this:

1. Point your camera in one direction and keep it that way. Don't keep turning back and forth to try to capture the runners' fronts and their backs. That'll just result in you missing other runners as they go by. I (and, I assume, many here) prefer fronts.
2. Framing is important. Try to frame your videos so that the runners' entire bodies are on view at all times. Don't point the camera too low so that their faces are left out of frame, but not so high that we miss their lower halves either. Depending on how wide the field of runners is (the "running lane" for these streaks is typically pretty narrow), portrait mode may actually be best, as opposed to landscape.
3. Hold the camera steady.
4. Hold the camera steady.
5. Hold. The camera. Steady. ಠ_ಠ

Looking forward to whatever you're able to record!

Thanks

Fango
