Show up. Smile a lot. Be polite. Take lots of pics. :)

Your biggest decision will be to camp at the park or stay at a motel. Camping fee is cheap, but they crowd in as many people as they can.

My first weekend there, I was embarrassed about wanting to take pictures of the audience, and so I tried to do them on the sly. (The performers obviously expected it all the time.) I got a lot, but I also saw a lot of shooters asking permission first, and it seemed to be welcome. My second weekend there, I tried to ask as much as possible, and I was pleased with the responses.

I love the NAP audience pics! the Pro's just don't do it for me.

And regarding xxxxenophile's remarks, very true. Just ask, you're likely to be surprised by the enthusiastic response! They might figure it's best to give you their best pose. Nothing worse than seeing unflattering sniper photo of yourself posted somewhere. Never been to NAP myself. A bucket list item.;)
