She, herself and her - that would be one hell of a crowded bed. But I wish I could join them.

A question for Joe -

Where did you learn the phrase "Bollocks" as screamed by Miss Periwinkle? I didn't think it was used in the States.

cartoonjoe2004 03-01-2011 10:29 AM

It's not...indeed, I picked up the term from the internet (and I know what it means...YOW!!)

I've been trying to convey, through her dialog, that Our Miss Perriwinkle hails from England, but I'm afraid I didn't do such a good job of it...I know how she sounds in my head, but I'm unsure if it comes out that way in the writing.

But with what just happened to her in that particular episode (unintentionally dissed by Mr. Hardcoch after working herself into a frazzle putting the assembly together, plus being doused with some {probably foul-smelling} water) Miss Perriwinkle uttered the only thing that summed up her feelings at that moment...and can you blame her?

Well you did a good job without reverting to the " 'ello guv'ner" style that a lot of comic writers use to portray English people.

Yeah, I was going for a more subtle bit of characterization...

sylvae 03-03-2011 04:54 AM

You are more successful than you think, Joe - I am British born and I picked up straight away that she was meant to be British.

.

Ironically, for that comic strip that cost $20, the first line of dialogue is "Someone is going to pay for this".
