SOMEWHERE IN AZ

I'm having trouble finding one's that aren't either (a) too easy in general, (b) too easy, given my previous one or (c) disqualified for lack of any interesting foreground.

This is a tough one, but not impossible:

Additional hints: the first is 1/2-1 mile Northeast of the one in the post above, the second is another 1/2-1 mile due north of there. Keep in mind these are kind of old.

This is a tough one, but not impossible:

Well Cessna N7222T is registered in Thousand Oaks, CA :D

That's a start, though it just tells you where the owner lives. The pictures are not in Thousand Oaks.

Obviously o "pride" town, but which?

Sniggle 01-28-2012 06:13 PM

Without scolding you for being out of turn, I think that's Stockholm.

Oops! sorry, too quick there! missed that part of the concept. But you're right with Stockholm! I'll keep quiet till I make a correct guess... :o

Additional macabre, but apropos hint:

The first picture (with the plane in the background) was taken in the hometown of a celebrity who died in a plane crash.

So now we've come to Pacoima, if I'm not barking up the wrong tree, but what if anything in the original picture identifies it as from there, and why, beyond the fact that this plane was also crashed at some point, is the hint a propos?

Sniggle 01-30-2012 01:18 PM

Pacoima (hometown of Ritchie Valens) is correct. Specifically, Whiteman Airport.

The apropos-ness between the photo and the death of Ritchie Valens isn't as dramatic as I perhaps implied: just the presence of a small airplane.

Okay ... I didn't say it was easy. The main clue is the accident report from when that specific plane caught a wing on a fence in 1998 while taxiing at Van Nuys airport. The report says the pilot "was attempting to return to his home base at the Whiteman Airport."

The second picture is on the Hansen Dam bike path, which is just a half mile or so from Whiteman airport. The Hansen Dam golf course is off to the right. The slope is the dam itself.

The clue in the third, obviously, is the sign. The grocery store in the background is the Lake View Farm Market, in the Lake View Terrace area, close to the other two locations. Plus, the Zacky Farms truck suggests Southern California at least.

I'm glad to see this thread (and contest) is alive again. :)

Probably still pretty easy, but not the dead giveaway it could have been...

Sniggle 01-30-2012 04:43 PM

Not totally certain, but I think:

Baker Beach, San Francisco

If you could see further to the right, the Golden Gate Bridge would make it a dead giveway.

So it was too easy; at least I've got you guessing now (though - no surprise - the guess was spot on) rather than absolutely certain...it was a pretty soft lob, but it's back in your court again.

Probably a lob, and perhaps somewhat redundant, but:

Yes, please. I searched google maps for plazas that boast a Staples and a Michaels in the area of the prior posts, but I didn't have any luck.

The photo looks like it was shot in 1987!

I know I'm out of line here, but does anybody know where this is ? Please ??:o

Not quite that old. 1998.

That's the exactly correct approach. It's fair to assume it's close to the location of the earlier posts. Given the passage of time, stores relocate, though I will observe that the location of Staples stores tends to be stable.

I believe that is Alpsee Lake in Bavaria in the background.

Yeah: it's from a peak a little ways to the East of the lake. The smaller lake to the right in the photo is called Schwansee.

Here's a photo from the same general vicinity (closer to the lake and lower in elevation).

A little closer to the same location.

The Photo must be taken near the famous Neuschwanstein castle.

Sniggle 02-16-2012 02:50 PM

Indeed.

A little corner of it (including the top of the tower) is visible at the edge of the second photo I posted above.

It's behind the rock the naked girl is standing on in the (otherwise more interesting) first photo.

Okay, then I will go with approximately 12810 Sherman Way, North Hollywood. The Michael's is gone and has been replaced by a Dollar Tree.

Sniggle 02-17-2012 03:49 PM

Yes, I didn't think that would be too hard. Your turn.

It looks similar (but not the same building) to this pic. I originally thought it was a US State Capitol, but am now leaning to something in Europe or a Church. Anyone recognize this one?

You are correct. VR2's is somewhere else, although it's hard to identify because those magnificent boobs are in the way.

Thanks! I cannot identify VR2's location either, but I think it's my turn to post a clue.

The winner gets to post the next clue and I'll post some more revealing photos of the woman featured in this clue!

This should be easy. :)

Indeed, though there's a whole different sense to my concurrence after your post; thanks! Here one to show the foreground, then one to feature the surroundings...
