If you plan to visit the spa in the town where they also make weissbeer, go ahead, it's a bucket list thing, the place is HUGE. But as far as I am concerned, once you have ticked it off, that's it, it is impressive but hardly a charming place.

Yeah, it's definitely a place worth visiting, but I also have mixed feelings about T.E. I have been there once, and it was just an incredible experience. I attended a conference at the baltic sea for one week. On wednesday, me and my roommate for this week decided to go to the spa since it was included.
While he went straight to the sauna area, I went to the gym. As I am a bit shy, I went to the indoor pool after that which requires bathing wardrobe. Many families, a somewhat ugly place.

Yeah I know those Videos, unfortunately I don't know where they were made.
But a lot of Spas in Germany/Austria feature those big nude pools.

Good advice.

• If you are naked, then there is the problem of where you hide your phone/camera.
• You are probably physically closer to others and can be more easily seen and caught.
• The owners and staff are probably on the lookout for lone men using phones (assuming phones are allowed in the sauna), they don't want to risk their business reputation by losing (female) customers because pictures end up on the internet.
• If you get caught, where can you run? You are trapped in an enclosed area (not a beach) and you can be easily intercepted before you get to the exit area (your clothes and ID are probably locked in a locker).
• It is clearly a private space where there is an expectation of privacy - probably a crime in most countries. If you don't speak the language, then it's probably going to more difficult with the cops and courts.

As a Finn I would definitely not recommend Finland on this regard. Some Finns do mixed nudity - but only in private places like summer cottages and so. Please visit Finland - but if you happen to visit any mixed saunas, be prepared to stay in your swimwear.

What you need to know: saunas in Germany are rarely just saunas. They are usually connected to a (thermal) bath. This, in turn, also ensures a lot of public traffic.

I can personally recommend the Bad Beuren thermal spa. There is a large outdoor area which is especially nice in summertimes, and lots of really nice saunas. The audience is very mixed, and there are good spots for beautiful sights. For that, I can particularly recommend the small whirlpool here. ;)

I'll be heading to Berlin with the GF and want to visit a few great sauna's mentioned here. So far on my list I have the following:

We'll be going there for a full week, but we will realistically only have the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday available for a visit. Naturally we won't be able to visit all during our stay, but I do want to see as much people as possible ;)

So for those experienced with the Berlin spa's; Which days are the most busy at which sauna's?

Friday Spree, Sat.Vabali, Sun. Kristall. Forget Liqui and Trooical, not much nudity. Go afternoon/evening.
Also consider Wannsee or Müggelsee, both have nude beaches.

We went on a Thursday in the evening. They had a music event going on in the main pool which attracted a young crowd (20-30s). The main pool was textile, but the rest of the complex was optional, with the sauna's being fully textile free.

The first girl that stuck out was an Asian girl, somewhere in her mid 20s. She was quite short, easily one of the shortest girls there, but was still nicely developed with a firm B cup with practically no sag. She also had colored her hair blonde. In her face she had a few piercings, but nothing seemed pierced elsewhere. At least not as far as I could see, because what made her stand out so much was her pubic situation; she was sporting a very decent black bush. It was neatly trimmed, not too short, nor wild. But when it came to the bikini line she did the absolute minimal. As a result she had a very obvious black triangle which also continued down her lips a bit. How much down I sadly couldn't see.

Secondly there was Vabali (Berlin):

On a sunny day you'll see more here than in any other place in Berlin. Given the location you get the classic FKK's, but also tourists and couples that just want to treat themselves. Age wise it's a broad range from mid/late 20s to late 50s. Also of note is that it's mostly couples here, with just a few solo's in between. As a result the ratio is excellent. The pools are decent, and the sauna's are good, with great aufguss ceremonies (The sleep sound one is excellent to end the day with). The food and drinks are also excellent here. But be warned; all this does come with a price; we spent 8 hours there, and it cost us about 230 euro's in total.

If you go with a partner that's not too much into the nudity/spa thing, this is the place you bring her to. It's very much a relaxing treat to enjoy together.

Important for the single guys; They now have bouncers in front of the entrance. As a couple we got in without any troubles (they only asked if we reserved, which we did), but a few single guys got turned away. There was a well dressed single guy in front of us that greeted the bouncers politely first, and when asked if he went there before said yes, and that his friends were already inside. We didn't see him walk with others inside, so that was a lie, but hey, it got him through the door. If you look/dress decent (not like a thug) and act/reply like you're familiar with the FKK lifestyle that you'll probably be okay. Just don't say that it's your first time there or anything.

We really saw too much to mention here, all shapes, sizes, etc. If you want some specifics about something I'll gladly share what I remember.

The people there are also the most diverse we've ever seen (it's an FKK pool after all). So whatever you are; you'll fit right in. Because it's an FKK pool there also isn't much privacy; showers for example are just a pole right in front of a pool exit. Kristall is the furthest from Berlin though, so take that into account. From the HBF it's about 30 minute by train, with another 25 minute walk. We recommend at least 4 hours there (we stayed almost 7 hours), so you're looking at a day trip to Ludwigsfelde. We only experienced it on the Sunday, so can recommend that day. Perhaps other days might see more people walk unwrapped, but you might miss the crowd that wouldn't dare to go try their first time on a fully naked day. This also works the other way around; If you aren't used to going nude, going on Sunday can help you get comfortable on your own tempo. At 17:30 you can then decide if you want to go all the way or not. Many did :)

There are pools there that are fully naked, but you're covered by water.

Something more extreme would be Kristall, but I wouldn't recommend that for her first time. It's also less of a proper spa, and more something between a pool and spa.
