Something that I've always found kind of puzzling...I think part of the appeal of this (particular fetish) is the whole "damsel in distress" aspect...either the viewer identifies with the "captor" or else the idea of finding and rescuing the girl; but regardless; to fit the concept, the girl typically is not happy about the situation, so when I see a picture of a woman tied up but sporting a big ear to ear smile, the (smiling/happy) facial expression seems very out of place.

Well, it takes all kinds to make a world. Some people do like BDSM for those reasons, but there are other rationales. I like to see bound women teased to the edge of orgasm and tickled beyond their control -- essentially turning positive emotions like laughter and pleasure against them.
