I got married 3yrs ago. Its always been normal for the photographer to go to the brides home or place where she gets ready prior to the wedding. More like when she gets her makeup done, hair done, things like that. The trend of taking pictures while she is dressing is very recent. The photographer for our wedding took a few of these riskier shots, but from a distance and from the kitchen into the livingroom where she was getting ready (because her dress was so damn big and the house was small). She told me how he was lingering around as she was getting ready to change, and he was asked to go to the kitchen where everyone thought he would not have a view. She told me about this, saying how she was surprised that he seemed to be getting ready to photograph her when she was obviously about to get changed.

About a year later, when we were tasked with picking our pictures to be used for the album, we had to go through over 300 photos that the studio picked as the best pictures for the album. We had to pick 80. Along with those photos, which were printed, there was a DVD with over 500 additional pictures which the studio deemed lower in quality and thus unfit for the album. I didn't look at those pictures until recently, as I forgot all about them.

I can now verify that the recent trend as mentioned in the Wall Street Journal appears to be true, hence my sudden interest in this thread :)
