The last of what I have to share.

The claim that they don't show genitals isn't true. It is true that it's not a gynecology magazine, so if you're looking for closeups, you're going to be disappointed. But women are in the magazine, full frontal, every month.

There was a short period (around 2011/12 I believe) when the current editor made the decision not to show anything except boobs in an attempt to persuade large retailers to stock the magazine somewhere other than the porn section. Readers complained, and a few months later, the editor announced that the largest high-street magazine retailer, WH Smith, had promised to stock the magazine, including full-frontal pictures, away from the jazz-mags. I have been to several WH Smith's since then, and haven't yet found one that stocks the magazine anywhere, so I don't know that her campaign can have been that successful.

A couple more of Brenda from H&E Vol 90 No 3. In the late 80's and early 90's she made quite a few appearances in H&E plus BN magazine.

It's definitely no secret that nudist magazines like H&E had a different target audience back then, and were aimed at not only genuine naturists but also non-naturist men who just enjoyed looking at beautiful naked women. This is confirmed by interviews with past editors like Leslie Bainbridge and Murray Wren. (Bainbridge was also editor of the soft porn magazine Girl Illustrated.) The nudist magazines could use full frontal photos of (apparent) naturists and innuendo to attract "readers" in a way regular porn magazines at the time couldn't. The German magazines like Sonnenfreunde and Jung Und Frei were even more blatant in their heavy focus on young women and teen girls, which they could get away with because they were supposedly about nudists.

Leslie Bainbridge as editor of H&E
 

In Leslie Bainbridge's time, he had no difficulty in showing fully frontal vulvas. Leslie was an early promoter of what he called depilation and took pride in showing ordinary women who were shaved. At the time letters to the editor often featured the advantages of depilation and circumcision with Leslie being greatly in favour of both practices.
