Women's underwear is meant to be seen... by themselves. Maybe also by their lady friends and by guys they want to attract, but primarily by themselves. Women dress so that they like the way they look, not so that random people on the street will like the way they look.

Again, women would be embarrassed to be seen in a bodyshaper or corselette but OK about a one-piece swimsuit. These are both bodyshapers.

I would like to suggest "vulnerability".

Most men are physically stronger than most women and **** and sexual assault is something women worry about much more than men do. Girls are taught to protect themselves and not send out misleading signals.
