I was up at Gasworks Park a few weeks back and noticed that the famous entrance to the Park where I have taken so many of my pics has been significantly altered and landscaped. Why, I don't know. There will always be a little voice inside me saying "they did this because of Klondike and those other pesky photogs" but of course, that is ridiculous (probably....:))

Anyway, the area is now a lot smaller, and the little parking lot is being replaced by a grassy slope and a path. If they fence that off, that might restrict viewing somewhat. Last year, they attempted to keep a large area of pavement clear of onlookers anyway just so the partipants had room to manuever their floats, etc and disembark. Not a big deal, and since most of the action in recent years has shifted to the big grassy hill inside the park, thats probably where I'll be next year anyway...

In fact most ask to know where the photos will be uploaded, so they can get a copy. Below are examples from a young girl called Francesca, she was a steward at the Brighton WNBR (her first time NIP) and posted these shots of herself on her Facebook page! They are public, not just 'friends only'.

God Bless women like this!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Having thought more about the subject, I must admit to having a very irrational view about net exposure. While I'd love to do something like going to Burning Man wearing only paint, or riding the WNBR, I wouldn't be comfortable with pics showing me naked in such public events. I'm okay with pics from the much smaller festival that I went to, since they don't show me 'showing off' in front of thousands of people. It's a bit like "Sure, I'm naked, but it's only among friends", so it's more about the context in which the pics are taken then about the number of people being able to see them afterward.

It's completely irrational, but that's how I feel. At least for now, but maybe I'll change my mind about that Burning Man thing in the future :).

There are a few hippie/spiritual festivals to choose from, and I recommend them! Even 'mainstream people' (i.e. non hippies) seem to like those events. There's everything from mantra singing to comedy acts. As an added bonus, nude swimming is common on the festivals I've been to. The swim was particularly pleasant when we were painted, as a girl helped me get the paint of by rubbing my backside with sand in the water. Nothing erotic, but very, very pleasant :).

Man, I envy your courage to do the WNBR!

What you describe is similar to how a lot of people view the nude beach experience. A lot of folks go with friends or to see friends and want to be seen by them, show off their tan, tatoos, bods, piercings, whatever - but the more public aspects of the beach - incl strangers, clothed users, voyeurs, etc - don't appeal to them. In otherwords, they are definately not there for that and being seen by complete strangers is of no interest to them. I don't think its irrational, and since many others have expressed similar views, it seems a pretty typical attitude for many. It hadn't occur to me, though, that there was a tie in with festival nudity vs WNBR, for example, but I see your point. Your interest is clearly in casual nudity among friends, not exhibitionism. There is a huge distinction, but its one that often gets ignored when you're considering the larger events where both types of people occur together. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts -

cheers,

Good things come to those who wait. Flickr user Artsculturalfestivalprotests just posted these (and other) pics today from the 2009 parade. Check out his photostream.

The five blue girls are now the stuff of Fremont legend. Someone captured them in all their glory on top of the hill in Gasworks Park for the single best pic of 2009. But this new one below is damn close to numero uno, and was captured at Hales to boot (where I was). Darn that I missed this posed opportunity. Darn.....darn......

Thank k, I saw he put some up a couple of days ago, but he does 'like the men' rather! I see there are now more 'ladies' present!

From what i've seen of this year's parade, would i be right in saying 2009 had more full nudes?

Hard to say - possibly not. I did a count this year and numbers were at least equal to last years. BUT......since it rained in 2010, there were a LOT fewer photogs on hand to document it all. Hence, the perception...
