We are having a heat wave where I live that has caused spot power outages. Despite the heat, I ventured out to buy a few items. When approaching the store check out line, I heard a mom and daughter in a heated discussion about the proper way to dress for the heat.

The daughter works as a product packer at a small local factory. Their air conditioning failed overnight. The daughter said that her department, a small windowless metal building, was like a sauna. The employees are required to wear lightweight white coveralls. Three of the eight people on her crew are younger girls who all said to hell with this. They stripped to their undies before putting on their coveralls. The coveralls are fairly sheer so their undies were already quite visible. The sweat soaked coveralls became transparent. The shift supervisor was sympathetic and convinced the owner to shut down at noon until the air conditioning was restored on Monday. Daughter called mom to come pick her up early. Mom was not happy about her daughter's dress code and was letting her know it.

I know it's a lotta explanation for a couple of sneaky so-so pictures. The girl's not even very attractive, but I thought the situation was all very funny. The mom saw me laughing. She just shook her head and rolled her eyes, like what can you do with young people these days.

Sorry no. I stood behind them for about 5 minutes in the check out line. I heard a couple of repeat explanations when the daughter reverted to "the other girls did it too" argument. I actually wondered why the mom kept the conversation going. All she did was call attention to her daughter. I concluded that she wanted everyone to know that it was not her fault. Perhaps there were people in the store that she knew. I just thought that the whole deal was funny.

BTW the heat wave in the story caught me too. Electric surges took out my router. After two days, I'm back online.
