I must confess that whilst I still like looking at pictures of lovely young naked women riding bikes, I am starting to think that those who ride naked are having more fun than those taking the pictures. Just my 2 cents.

And being watched/ shocking people/ getting people's attention is a major part of the initiative. The WNBR is about raising issues about cyclist safety in traffic and the environment in general. What better way to gain public interest for these issues than by putting pictures of the various events on the internet? I don't see the drama.

We're very respectful towards the participants here. We do not post degrading or demeaning messages about them.

On the whole I agree with you, there is the odd message that gets posted that isn't very respectful and it's those messages that get seized upon but hey ho, this is the Internet age.

Satellitegrid user on YouTube is now posting his videos of Brighton and Cardiff.

No don't think so, that girl was an American from Texas? This girl has been described as a 'Polish Hippy'. She has done London a few times plus Brighton and now Bristol.

I could be wrong of course.

This is definitely true - the riders are having the best time :)
I rode Bristol and Cardiff this weekend and had a blast.

I wouldn't say the posts here are very respectful, but understand they could considerably more degrading. There's room for improvement.

What I think is a bigger problem is just how creepy these threads appear. Girls get catalogued, referenced to where they have appeared before. It's all rather obsessive. It puts women off - this year Cardiff had many fewer women than last.

Having taken part in many of the rides, I'm now good friends with many of the riders. I know this creepiness bothers them, to the extent that even regulars consider not coming along anymore. By getting so obsessive here, there will be far fewer photos of beautiful happy naked women. A delicate and wonderful thing will be lost.

I'd urge anybody coming to a ride to photograph to back off a little. Chat and laugh with the riders - they are having a great time and most will happily pose for you. Don't pounce of any female who begins to undress. That way we can enjoy this special event for years to come.

I have to give her credit for letting hundreds of naked guys and hundreds of random spectators view her nude body, when she was one of the few females. Great natural breasts and ass, and a beautiful full bush. And she did bend over quite a few times to pick up things, revealing very intimate views between her legs. I hope someone caught that on film.

surely there is a pic of her?? :-)

Don't mean to be pedantic but 'Texan' Emma and the famous redhead rode in London 2012 and 2013 respectively, both with heart shaped glasses and both stunning.

Great stuff so far, I'm keeping an eye out for Bristol/Cardiff stuff that might have passed under the radar.

I'll put my head above the para-pet here (hyphen to avoid the redaction of four consecutive letters of that word)- not least because I'd not seen this post before my subsequent one went live. I'm a relatively new poster but will say that this is a constant topic of discussion here. OCC as a whole caters to many tastes and I mostly tend to visit for the WNBR threads because of the sheer consensual joy of the riders- this for me is only about beauty. The more guttural users of OCC tend to get stonewalled on these threads, as you imply. Of course things can get obsessive but imho that's simply due to the natural competitiveness of the guys(?) posting. And I'm certainly guilty of that.

I certainly can't and wouldn't speak for all who post here. But I'm pretty sure that many of the most intrusive WNBR photographers aren't sharing their photographs here, and I don't approve of the most openly voyeuristic. It must be said that there was one particular incident on the Cardiff ride last year that was photographed astonishingly intimately by a ride participant. I myself wouldn't have chosen to take those shots, let alone post them online, but- spirit of the occasion notwithstanding- the choice to perform the headstand was one person's alone. One hopes that that imbalance and intrusion could in some way be redressed.

All that said I would happily participate, as I wholeheartedly support the main two protests of the ride- cyclist safety and oil dependancy. But most of the rides are at the far end of the UK from me, in Edinburgh. Maybe Newcastle, next year- great excuse to finally get a new bike!

That's my tuppence worth. But point absolutely taken, now and for the future.

So please don't post clickable links, traceable (via Google) links, copyrighted/(water)marked pics, especially in the case of smaller rides!!!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. OCC clearly has a lot of smart people around, which is the only reason I'm trying to make some of the points I'm making. You are absolutely correct here - the sheer consensual joy of the riders is staggering. I love doing these rides and want them to continue for a long time. Toning down the obsessive behaviour will really help here.

Again, you are right. The most intrusive photos don't make it anywhere obvious on the internet. I'm now a friend of the women who chose to do the headstand. Of course she knew she was surrounded by photographers - but as you say it's the choice of the photographer what to shoot. I took photos of her surrounded by a sea of photographers. It's rather sad when you see it that way around.

These riders are some of the most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. They are much more than their body. Let's treat them with respect.

Pedro the Fisherman 06-07-2016 02:59 PM

I totally agree with the above post, I've long preached that to get the most out these events is to ride yourself and have a great time and possibly a few respectful photos of the event, not intrusive shots of individual ladies or (even worse) just exposed parts of lady riders.

I've ridden several times and have never had a request for a posed photo declined, indeed if the snapper is naked too, the ladies are very happy to pose. What happens to the thousands of photos taken at places like the London assembly area is anybodies guess, the one I post are taken by me or copied from hosting sites that are open to everybody and often uploaded by fellow riders. Just look at almost all the naked male (and occasionally female) riders, a camera is usually visible at some time if not always to hand around the neck and one regular man (who seldom strips) has about six video cameras on his bike!

There are now loads of great 2016 photos up at the usual places, but I'm going to make people search themselves for those:D I am not riding this year and the great UK summer does not look like it will stay around into the next big WNBR weekend either, which is a great shame.

Thanks for your support Pedro. I've been on these forums longer than this username would suggest so it means a lot. In fact in the beginning the WNBR threads were one of the reasons I was interested. They inspired me to have a go at the ride. My views have changed over the years as I've ridden more rides and become friends with many of the people who feature here. I like picture of the rides and my friends. They are wonderful people and you'll never meet a happier crowd.

Everybody who does the ride knows the photos will end up on the internet. That's not the problem - it's just how people go about taking them and then what they do with them that makes the difference. Too many photographers are rude and intrusive, when as Pedro says people are happy to pose if asked and generally are happy with tasteful candid shots. My rule is to only take photos I'd be happy showing the subject. Then these forums appear creepy to many of the women who I know, with their obsessive cataloging. The yearly thread isn't so bad, but it's when a rider gets their own thread it gets really disturbing. Think about it - how would you feel?

Ok, so with a little more than a month and a half until the northern hemisphere ride season gets underway, thought I'd keep things ticking over with a wee recap of favourite WNBR images. Not necessarily favourite girls- though some of my very favourites are here- just images which I find fun and which capture the character of the WNBR mayhem. Anyone got others?

I'm considering going to the London and Brighton rides, but what really appeals is the idea of persuading bystanders or riders who are wearing underwear to flash. Seeing the shyer girls who maybe get caught up in the moment has always been my thing. Any suggestions on how best to do this? Obviously it needs to be done in a friendly and gentle way so as not to upset anyone. A good line of reasoning for my request would definitely help, especially as there will already be many naked people around so I'm looking for some justification why I want them to show the goods.

You guess correctly - I've yet to hear "flattered", but have heard "alarmed", "uncomfortable" and "disturbed" from a rider who's featured prominently here.

Let's make this a more positive place :)

Only a few days until Manchester, and up to now me ,the wife and her best mate Jenny are all doing it! The girls are looking forward to it, but are a bit apprehensive of taking everything off, so we have made a pact that if one of us goes fully nude, we all do, I shall defo make sure that happens!

Pedro the Fisherman 06-08-2016 04:35 AM

Good luck with the ride, you will all get carried away with the buzz, it's a great feeling for the first few minutes and then you almost forget you have nothing on! Knowing you have challenged the ladies to bare all will make it even more exciting......for us too:D

Wouldn't say grim. London looks like it'll be quite warm and probably dry. Currently saying 18C with a chance of light rain for Brighton - exactly like last year. It stayed dry then and the turnout was higher than for the gloriously sunny and hot 2014 ride. So the weather doesn't have as much bearing on the success of WNBR as you might think.

Pedro the Fisherman 06-08-2016 09:46 AM

London always seems to be luckiest with the weather, Manchester folk seem to be hardy whatever the weather up there. The only down side at Brighton is a forecast of a strong breeze that will prevent many taking part in the traditional post ride skinny-dipping:mad:

iowas 06-08-2016 09:48 AM

When I say grim I mean rain which is quite popular in Britain.

qwertypaul 06-08-2016 10:57 AM

Can I check the Hyde Park depart time, it's 3pm right? The Facebook page says the event starts at 2pm (I'm guessing that's when you can start to assemble, not depart?)...

exyker 06-08-2016 11:35 AM

Just found out the Victoria, BC is going to be on Saturday, July 9th this year. I won't be able to make it down but hopefully someone else will, because the last two years in Victoria have been severely undocumented.

fdooby 06-08-2016 11:55 AM

Breeze likely to be coming from a southerly direction, so hopefully not cold. Last thing you want is an easterly or north-easterly wind on an already fairly cool day. Hopefully it'll be a day of quality over quantity, with plenty of fun people out to enjoy themselves.

The down side of London is that many seem tense. Hardly surprising given the vast packs of iPhone idiots and the kamikaze drivers all over the place. I saw cyclists actually being driven at last year coming down The Mall  I've covered London four times now and never got a set of pics I'm happy with it. Every time I vow never to do it again, then when it comes round I foolishly think this year it might be a good one. Eternal optimist :p

Ride departs Hyde Park at 3pm. Last year it took barely two hours to complete. Compared to 2012, when it took more than four hours and the ride brought central London to a standstill.

I always think the great American comedian Bill Hicks summed up the difference between British and Californian weather superbly:
"Every single day, hot and sunny. And they love it. "Isn't it great, every day, hot and sunny?" What are you, a f***ing lizard? Only reptiles feel that way about this kind of weather. I'm a mammal, I can afford coats, scarves, cappuccino and rosy cheeked women."

Just a note to say it's worth checking back the links which have already been posted, as several Flickr users are uploading in fits & spurts. Here's a couple of Bristolian Michaels, Hill and Gross, that I don't know have been posted here yet (remove the Xs);

Bristol- starts off, um... wobbly.... but there's some great footage of the riders coming through a roughly cobbled archway from 1m15.

Some phone footage from the top deck of a bus, better than you'd expect. Shows the actual quantity of Bristol riders this year- pretty impressive- before the bus gets caught up and travels at the same pace as the riders for a while.

FYI, don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Flickr has added an album downloading feature to the album pages, so you can now download entire albums in one go as a ZIP file, which is extremely helpful. Obviously, this will only appear on pages where the photographers have enabled picture downloading. I wonder when they added this feature...
