Do they still have a rule about covering the vulva? Do they try to enforce the rule?

They wear something called a taposexo. I don't know of the literal translation, but basically it's a piece of tape they apply to cover their business, and that's about it. It's tiny, and usually it's painted to blend in with their body paint so it's almost invisible. A few years ago Viviane Castro was I believe disqualified because hers was too small. Also, I believe there are photos out there of her where it fell off, or at least it appears that way.
As far as I know I believe that applies to the ladies in the samba competition, so maybe there's a different standard for the girls on the floats, though I haven't seen any that didn't seem to be wearing at least that. |
