Close to Berlin there is the Kristalltherme in Ludwigsfelde (beware of the textile days and avoid them). Large, but not as stylish as Vabali.

A bit further away, you have the SATAMA SAUNA RESORT & SPA situated at a beautiful lake. Perfect on a sunny day.

If you are in Munich, there is always the gigantic Therme Erding, where you can see thousands and thousands of naked Germans. But it is more of a bucket list thing, its hardly charming.

If you have the time, take the train south up in the Alps to the Tergernsee train station, stroll around a bit, and then go to the Monte Mare Sauna situated at the lake. Stunning scenery is just the start. Its ridiculously beautiful.

In Köln there is plenty to choose from. I would choose the Mediterana in one of the suburbs. If you want to live and dine in STYLE, spend one or two nights at the Schloss Bensberg which is within walking distance from Mediterana.

Thanks for this list! This is exactly what I was looking for. By chance, have you been or heard anything (good or bad) about Aqua Dome in Tyrol, Austria? That is another place that we are considering.

Regarding Berlin, the Vabali now asks people not to walk around naked, so forget that one.

The Kristalltherme has clothing optional times, all Wednesday and part Sunday. Still 50% are naked. In the saunas everone must be naked. I find it a bit fun walking around naked in front of clothed women, so if you enjoy that you might like those times. You can travel there with an express train and a bus in one hour for 4€. Station name is "Kristallbad". As they have a bar in the water with good drinks, it might be better not to go by car.

They have said that for a few years, I have not seen any difference due to this. Most people in most nude spas tend to done a robe or towel when moving around anyway, and to take it off in pools, saunas and on sun lounges. And they still do so at Vabali. And a lot of people tend to be nude in the reasonable vicinity of showers. At least thats my take on this. It would be a shame if people were discouraged from going to Vabali, give how brilliant the place is.

I remember seeing two girlfriends (around 16-17) leaving the pool area for a shower at the end of the "normal" time and saw them 15 min later, wrapped in towels, discussing in front of the shower entrance. It seemed that their original plan was to leave the pool, take a shower, change and leave. But obviously one of them wanted to give it a try while the other one was not really happy. It took another 5 minutes before they came back into the pool area. They both sat down (still wrapped in towels) and watched what was going on. More and more couples were either coming from the sauna area or from the locker room completely naked and started enjoying the water. One of the girls suddenly stood up, dropped the towel and ran into the water, while the other one seemed to be shocked. The more brave girl came back out of the water to "pick-up" the more reluctant one and after some more discussions they both were naked and enjoyed the time. I saw them later on in the line for the water slides and they both were not shy anymore to show their naked bodies.

I remember a young couple (18 or 19) discussing if they were staying or not - the guy was pretty fast out of his trunks and tried tp persuade her to do the same. But it took him a lot of time to talk her out of her bikini. Later on I saw her running around naked without any towel or shyness.

Another time it was a family with a boy and a girl, where the mother had to persuade the daughter to drop her bikini that they could stay - it seems that her biggest problem was to be seen naked by her brother and father.

Are there any places left where it is possible to go on watersides? I went a few times to Kristaltherme Palm Beach, and there used to be clothes free on Friday evenings, but they stopped with that. To bad.

The Vabli house rule says to always wear a robe outside of pool and saunas, and I read they enforce it lately. I myself go to the Kristalltherme, were a robe is wanted in the Restaurant only. So many people are nude everywhere.

Quoue Vabali:
"Außerhalb unserer Saunen und Pools bitten wir Sie, stets einen Bademantel zu tragen."

This is how it is supposed to be indeed.
When temperature is warm enough, most people at the sauna complex wife and I go to, walk around naked or just a towel wrapped around their waist. And the wrapping of the towel is only done because otherwise they need to carry it.
Only people actually wearing a robe are the ones who are there for their 1st time.
Wife and I also woar a robe our 1st time ... wife did that for at least 15m, after which she also didn't bother to cover up.
Only in the restaurant it is mandatory.

Berlin in summer

My wife and I will be in Berlin this summer and have plenty of time there. Our hotel has a great spa ( all nude of course) but we have been to the Europa Centre Thermen for years which is now closed.

So this year we will try Vabali which we have enjoyed before, but also Liquidrom has good reviews too.

Anyone been to Liquidrom - and can share thoughts?

Thanks!

Will report back, going with German friends ( they recommended Liquidrom) and will report back 😊

Liquidrom

Liquidrom is definitely hip but the main pool requires a swimsuit and it is more optional in the other pools. Sauna area is nude. Changing rooms are separate but with no divider by the lockers so it is a little bit mixed.

It is much smaller than Vabali or thermen Europa.

I too miss thermen Europa….
